best way to study for the 100 questions

wow, thanks for all your help everyone! I noticed that some questions have more than one answer, like one question has the answer...

- sets up the government

- defines the government

- protects basic rights of Americans

So for questions like these, does the applicant have to know just one of the answers or must know all 3? Thanks for all your help!

you must know all 3 , every answer has a different meaning

That is not correct.

that is so correct.. if you wanna study only one answer, it's up to you.. that's not my problem

It's good to know all 3 answers but the IO will expect you to provide only one.

On the contrary, if the question specifically requires more than one, you should provide those number of answers.

Otherwise, any of the answers will suffice. If you notice, the multiple answers to questions that do not specify the number of required answers are different phrasings of the same idea:

2. What does the Constitution do?

▪ sets up the government

▪ defines the government

▪ protects basic rights of Americans

Sets up / defines the government is basically the same, and its ultimate purpose is to protect basic rights of Americans.

The important thing is that you have a basic understanding of the subject matter. Unless you have limited command of English language, you do not even have to use the exact same words. It is an oral exam. The IO will be able to to understand what you're getting at - if you are able to communicate well. As opposed to a computerized exam where one wrong letter or number will trigger a command that tags the answer as erroneous.

and this one !!!

Why did the colonists fight the British?

because of high taxes (taxation without representation)

because the British army stayed in their houses (boarding, quartering)

because they didn’t have self-government

I made it easier on myself... I'm only going to answer with one answer unless the question asks for more than one answer.

What does the Constitution do?

My answer: Protects basic rights of Americans.

What is the rule of law?

My answer: No one is above the law.

Who makes federal laws?

My answer: Congress

Saying all the answers seems redundant, especially in the last question. The other answers for the question is "Senate and House" and "legislature". If you say BOTH "Congress" and "Senate and House", it sort of sounds like you don't know what you're talking about, since those are the same.

Everyone should answer how they feel most comfortable :dance::dance: .

The above is not legal advice.

It is either from research or merely my opinion.

For myself, for the last 3 questions cookiee has offered I am going to provide all of the answers if I get one of those questions, because yes, there are subtle differences between each one and the complete answer is provided by offering all of the answers listed. I don't want to get a 'wrong' answer by giving an incomplete answer.

That is part of the problem of the test. Some questions say provide a specific number of responses - ie - 3 of the original states or 1 reason why Benjamen Franklin is important. Others provide different ways of saying the same thing - ie what did the Emancipation Proclamation Do:- freed the slaves/freed the slaves in the Confederacy/freed slaves in the Confederate States/freed slaves in most Southern States, yet there are others like the ones Cookiee quoted where there are three or four components to the correct answer - ie what does the Judicial Branch do - - reviews laws; explains laws; resolves disputes (disagreements) decides if a law goes against the Constitution. These are not different ways of saying the same thing - these are different responsibilities of the Judicial Branch.

This is why it is confusing - there is an ambiguity about some of the multiple part answers which is why this question arose.
