Hi everybody,

I found this site very helpfull to my K1 visa application. All of you guys are very resourcefull. I have a question regarding the interview in Manila. Is it strickly English speaking or are they going to provide a translator upon request?? My fiancee can speak little English but he has trouble engaging English conversation. We are both Filipino so we have no problem with our communication. My I-129F application was approved but I am worried he wont be able to get through the interview because of communication barrier. Is anybody have any idea?? :crying::crying:

Hi, there.

In Vietnam, the consulate officers in HCMC will conduct interviews in Vietnamese in case a visa applicant can't speak English well.

Therefore, as far as I know, normally their way would be same, i.e. the consulate officers in Manila will conduct interviews in Filipino in case a visa applicant can't speak English well. Besides, they also have local employees who will translate for the applicants.

Well, I have no idea if they provide a translator as I haven't been interviewed yet..but i don't think they will. You are not the only person your fiance is going to interact to when he gets to US so i think English fluency is a must during interview, you need to show the officer that you can communicate well. Good luck po.

hi nothing to worry about ok......at interview the consulate will ask your fiancee if she need a translator and just answer yes and the consulate will call the filipino on his/her behind...then they will translate into our own language (tagalog) during the interview....just keep praying that she will get the PINK...just relax ok... :no:

I guess I'm surprised by the fact that they will allow the use of a translator. When my fiance had her interview the CO greeted her in Tagalog and then immediately began the interview in English. Oh well. As bowgirl said, your fiance is going to have to interact with others in the States and unlike most other countries americans usually speak only one language..English. Sad but true. Anyway good for him. Hope all goes well.

Our time line for CR1 visa took only 5 months and 1 week or 156 days; from the filing the I-130 on the 03-12-2009 to Approval of NOA2 on the 05/13/2009, then Interview on the 08/18/2009 at Manila, Philippines. We had a daughter on the 11-12-2010 named AISHA JOY means HAPPY LIFE.a1_opt-1.jpga2_opt-1.jpga3_opt-1.jpg

I think it is part of being assigned in Manila that they learn tagalog, CO's would greet him in the vernacular , that is for sure , there will be questions in tagalog, then he can answer in tagalog , the questions may not be that hard that he wont be able to comprehend, so i think he will be ok ;

good luck .

We went through the same worries. Naty had no problems with the interview without the translator. Remember, Nowhere in the process do they state that speaking English is a requirement for a K-1. Good Luck to you.

A LOT OF PEOPLE HERE IN THE US CAN'T SPEAK ENGLISH. THAT IS SO STEREOTYPICAL TO SAY THAT WHEN THEY COME TO US THEY HAVE TO SPEAK ENGLISH, YES THEY WILL EVENTUALLY NEED TO SPEAK THE LANGUAGE BUT THEY DON'T HAVE TO, EVEN UNTIL THEY DIE! OK.. THANK YOU.
