Can't find my package by DHL shipping reference

Houston, we have another problem

NVC told me my package was sent to the consulate in Kyiv on 8/6/09. Yet, I don't see any shipments to Kyiv, Ukraine on either 8/6/09 or 8/7/09 by following well known DHL tracking instructoins (using ref codes "EXP 05 AUG 2009A" and "EXP 06 AUG 2009A" respectively). What does that mean? Am I looking at another delay/loss or package again?

I would say no, at this point. There are posts about DHL/Fedex tracking issues all the time, usually noting that you can only tell that a package went out - not that your stuff was in it. Sometimes there never is anything conclusively trackeable, but the file/document arrives safe and sound somehow. Relax and wait another week or so, because it does take awhile after the consulate gets the information that it gets entered in their computer system.

There is no way to know when your package leaves. Saying it was "sent" can mean it was processed to be sent. You are presuming "sent" means put in the DHL system when it can really mean "put in the NVC system to be sent" You do not have "another problem", this is normal procedure. That is why the letters say the petition will "be forwarded within a week" You can schedule an interview when the case is entered in the Kiev consulate's system. Trying to track a petition like this is only gauranteed to raise your blood pressure. Watch for blood squirting from your eyes...bad sign.

Not to worry you, but I know several people who were told it was sent only to find it was in AP (call it what you will) at NVC for several more weeks.

Now it seems like you will be cutting it close but he may make it here before class starts or soon thereafter, sounds like you will sneak under the wire and get the education you paid for.

Thanks, guys. Has there ever been a case when "NVC sent out date" (one told by phone) was later than actual package departure date?

Probably - as Gary mentioned, there really is no definitive way to tell. If the NVC computer updates a day later than the ship date (for example) I suppose it could happen. Again though, you are probably fine - just hang in another week or two (at most) and everything should be in Kiev and ready to roll.

Also you asked in your other thread about how people get these dates. I used the letter they sent which said when they received my petition as the "NVC received date" and the letter said it would be sent "within a week" so I just added 7 days and put that as the "NVC left " date. Pretty close I am sure. The "Consulate received date" was when they finally answered the phone and said it was in the system and made an appointment. Those dates were all "back entered" after the fact. I never tried tracking anything from DHL and didn't even know you could (well, you can't really).

I do not know if the consulate is still updating only on Friday. That was last summer. When you call the call center, they CAN tell you when they get case updates. I would guess, with reduced volume, they may have changed this and the consulate is currently not doing visa interviews on Friday, but I do not know if they are "closed" or just not doing interviews.

If you called to NVC and you were told that your case has been sent to Kiev, so wait for next 2-3 weeks till Embassy will get your case and put into their system and then you can start calling to the call center and schedule for your interview. Like our firends told you, wait for another week and it will show you up :)

Don't forget there was a week end in there. Ours was delayed 3 days past when it was 'sent' as a result.

I can explain it to you. But I can't understand it for you.

So, it can't be 1-2 days before what was told as a sent date, can it? Because we have one package 2 days prior and 3 days after (of which 2 are the weekend). I hope it's the former because we're really pressed by time like never before.
