Ok I am just soooo confused, I hope someone can help me. The I-864A is a family member that lives with you and is co-sponsoring my spouse and must make enough money for ALL in the household. But what is a joint sponsor that only fills out the I-864? Can this joint sponsor be a family member but not live with us and only have to use their household size? Also can this joint sponsor live in another state? Must a joint sponsor include my husband and I and my children in their household size if we are not living with them? Or do they just have to make enough money to support themselves and my spouse. Im just confused the difference in a joint sponsor that fills out the I-864 and a joint sponsor that fills out the I-864A

Also if we do end up living with my parents and they co-sponsor also when I fill out my I-864 do I just put my income or do I put their income also on my I-864 and also have them do I-864A?

Last thing sorry, my mother and father are married and live together, my father works and my mother gets retirement pay every month. They file their taxes jointly together but when they do the I-864A would it be my father that fills this form out and really is the sponsor or can my mother do this since they file together?

I hope I didnt confuse anyone, its hard to explain I know if you want me to explain better just let me know. Hope someone can answer these questions for me. Thank you so much

Your correct. 864a is for household members, 864 is for non-household sponsors.

They must make enough income for all household members counted + intending immigrants.

(check the I-864P for the level needed to the number of people counted)

(remember - the sponsors (either one) will need to add your spouse as part of the household count. (so if it's just your dad/mom + spouse = 3 people.

They do not need to count you - since you are an USC or children. (you, of course, would count yourself, children on your 864 you must fill out)

If it's just your father sponsoring - just use his income - not your mothers.

My Advice is usually based on "Worst Case Scenario" and what is written in the rules/laws/instructions. That is the way I roll... -Protect your Status - file before your I-94 expires.

WARNING: Phrases in this post may sound meaner than they were intended to be. Read the Adjudicator's Field Manual from USCIS
