Favourite Tim Horton's story

Ah yes..Timmie's. I was well worked there for 6 years. (I found myself feeling very old when I said that, it just feels so weird saying I worked anywhere for 6 years.) We had extremely polite and friendly customers, and we have alot of loathsome rude ones as well, but I still to this day haven't found a better cup of coffee, so it will always be a fond memory.

I remember when I was about 12 years old, I had been getting a Long John for my entire childhood, just out of habit. One day, my step-mom finally suggested I tried something different and got me an apple fritter. From the first bite, I felt like I had graduated into adulthood for eating such an grown-up sounding donut. It's still one of my faves to this day

I do miss the fresh baked goods, now everything is trucked in. I use to love getting bowties...they were so yummy!

The most awesome coincidence? My dad just had a dr. appt. and brought Tims home for everyone...so I am sitting here with an Iced Coffee and donut. YUMMY!

Its the only time I have ever been fired. I don't know if I predicted it, it was more ironic than anything.

Have you ever heard the sound an obese person makes when they fall on a floor? There's a bit of a splat, it's really weird.

But the fact that he was a large man, who was eating a large amount of jelly donuts, and made a loud splat sound when he hit the floor... it all tied in together with the things you think of when you think about jelly.

LOL That made me really LOL. I probably would have had a hard time calling 911 too!

aww Kathryn that is so sweet. Is she in Cataraqui?

No, she's at Glenhaven Memorial Gardens in Glenburnie. It was the Tim Hortons just at the corner across the road where Cataraqui Cemetery starts, though, that she and Dad used to stop at on their way home.

I used to be very active in living history and historical re-enactment (Hey, Danu, remember Heritage Days "The Faire at the Forks"? I was one of the organizers of that). Our living history group put on a major 3 day War of 1812 event at a 25 acre conservation area site along the Thames River. We attracted over 600 re-enactors from across North America and generally between 12,000 to 15,000 visitors over the 3 days. The re-enactors all camp in period appropriate tents, wear period appropriate clothing and generally live as they did back in 1813, at least for the 3 or 4 days they are there. Adjacent to the conservation site up by the main road and within walking distance, though, is a Tim Hortons. Every morning of the event you would see costumed re-enactors -everyone from ladies in Regency dresses to First Nations with loincloths and furs to fully kitted out soldiers carrying flintlock muskets - lined up to get their morning dose of double double. Many brought their own 'mugs' so they could have their non-period correct coffee in a period correct container. Two things always struck me as funny - how the everyday people who were also in the building seldom stared or looked askance - as if it was a normal every day occurance for them to see such colourful people while drinking their coffee, and secondly, when we got back to the site which was supposed to be correct for 1812, you would see all of these same colourful people with the brown Tim Horton's mugs enjoying their coffee before the public arrived. Oh, I miss those days!

Then you live very close to where I used to live and my Dad still lives. We are up Princess Street just off of Sir John A. Macdonald Blvd in Strathcona Park. That is so cool. I miss Kingston - it is a beautiful city and if I weren't living here with Joe I would happily move there again. Yeah, my Mom's death hit my brother particularly hard. They were very, very close.

Ahh - coming of age at Tim's ! For our family the kid donut is a Dutchy...everybody gets those until they can make their own decision. Chocolate Walnut crunches were my original favourite until it turned out I was allergic to walnuts

Well a little bit farther than a stones throw but I'm near the corner of Taylor-kidd and Princess, near where TK turns into Counter.

I loved the old baseball park at the corner where the factory was (its now another Rio-can center) the guys from the base would set up training there and there would be like a million tents, 2 or 3 times a day you would see about 6-10 of them crossing the road to go to the Timmies on Gardiner's to get coffee for the whole troupe, was very cool to see.

My favorite Tim's story ...

The first time I went to see my now wife she said we had to go to Tim Horton's. I didn't understand her obsession with a coffee place but OK, I was game. (I do now) After we finally made it out of the apartment we pull into a Tim Horton's drive through (There were approximately 468 in a 2 block radius) and there is this little screen showing pictures of doughnuts, coffee and other various products. She turns to me and in a completely straight face says, "Oh look, new bagel porn". I almost peed myself laughing. To this day, all those little ads wherever they are, are affectionately referred to as bagel porn by us.

Awesome story! And fellow re-enactor here (except I do Civil War...occasionally, and WWII). The unit I am with does the 1st Canadian Para Bn (I'm the only true Canadian in the unit) and they all LOVE Timmy's in the morning. So we brew it up and drink from the brown mugs of WWII.

My Timmy's story is getting French Vanilla Cappacino before morning classes at university. They kept me awake during some of the worst classes I ever too...BUT I got my BA with Honours. I owe it to Tim Horton

Once I was sitting outside on my break and this guy was arguing with a couple of young guys and I heard him say "I'm going home to get my gun, I'll be back". I had to call the police.

My Tim Hortons was in a bad part of town.

I worked at a tim hortons too. I got fired. Thats my funny story. Well the story that goes along with it isn't too nice but I guess since we're all friends here I'll just spill it, I believe Jill knows this story, I may have told her.

I like to call this little diddy: JELLY DONUT OVERDOSE

So, I was working at a Tim Hortons part time. I was just 18 years old with a bit of an attitude and was your typical teenaged smartass. This man came in with his little wife, a big man, with a beard. He looked like a lumberjack! Anyways he came up, ordered a jelly donut, went to sit down with his wife... ate it. Came up ordered two more, went back to sit down with his wife and at that point I made a snide remark to my coworker:

"There's a heart attack waiting to happen!"

He came up once again for another donut and he had donut peices in his beard... no word of a lie. Jeezus just buy a dozen next time and save yourself the walk right?

Um so he gets to his seat and the next thing you know he falls over and his wife is screamining frantically. He had a heart attack.

So my supervisor gets me to call 911... and I tend to laugh during the most awkward times and I am sorry if that offends you but its more of a nervous laugh. Well I couldn't tell the operator where we were located or what happened because all I could do was laugh.

My supervisor quickly grabbed the phone from me and took charge and after she was finished on the phone she asked me to go home, and the next day called me in and decided it would be best to let me go.

Thats my story.

I told you it wasn't pretty, but its MY story.

LOL! Very funny story..but it makes me stop and think...how the heck did you explain that on your resume?
