Favourite Tim Horton's story

Ok, I ran out of Tim Horton's coffee recently and was thinking how good a cup would taste right now. That got me thinking to some of the stories that some of us might have that involve Tim Hortons. I mean, even Charles who has never had a Timmies or even a timbit has a Tim Horton's story through hanging around on this forum  .

So, here's one to get started. It is kind of sad and sweet.

My Mom died just over 6 years ago. She used to love having a double double and every Tuesday night after the weekly auction my parents liked to attend they would always stop at the Tim Horton's on their way home for coffee and something sweet. My Mom is buried just outside of Kingston, Ontario and my brother lives just outside of Ottawa. Several times a month he will drive down to visit Mom's gravesite - and he always brings with him a double double just for her that he pours over the grave.

As I said, kind of sad and sweet.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

. Lucy Maude Montgomery, Anne of Green Gables

aww Kathryn that is so sweet. Is she in Cataraqui?

When Wes was up here in February I introduced him to the awesomeness of Timmies - the Ice Cap. The one at the top of the hill by Herbies has this gentleman who works there and he is a little bit slow, but has a wonderful personality (and when I get the supreme's he always piles them HIGH with whipped cream). We were standing in line waiting for him to make our Ice Caps and he starts doing small talk about how the weather is getting nicer etc etc and Wes says "I wouldn't know, I'm just here on a visit" which promptly gets the "OOOOOOH, where are you from man?" response. Wes goes on to say hes from CA, and that they don't have Timmies there, and the guy got all like super excited, giving high fives, doing the elbow knocking thing...it was really cute and funny to watch. He "accidentally" gave us larges instead of mediums. We went back almost every night until Wes left.

Are you trying to make me cry at work? :) That's such a sweet story

My favourite memory or story is that every Saturday for as long as I can remember, my mum heads out for 'shopping' of some description . If you were lucky enough to go with her and could stand all the mall walking, we would eventually end up at Tim Hortons where I could get a double chocolate donut and an 'orange drink'...whatever that was.

Aw, those are nice stories.

I don't really have any, since I rarely go to Timmies.

My fiance really does love those Ice Caps though, and so do I

Awww, what a moving story Kathryn! It brought tears to my eyes.

When Gene and I were traveling in Western Canada in the summer of 2006, he was seeing the Timmie's phenomenon for the first time. It was very very hot, and we were just outside of Golden,BC, when we came across a Tim's/Wendy's location. We pulled in and lined up inside for an Ice Cap. The line was snaking through the Wendy's lineups so it was quite confusing. All of a sudden, people started murmuring and that the noise got louder, and a message got passed through the line, that the Ice Cap machine had broken! :wow: The front of the line started to disperse, and started moving to the Wendy's lineup for Frosty's perhaps? It was pandemonium! Some people were moving up in the line, others were scattering, the line up at Wendy's was increasing. I just laughed and laughed. Gene had his mouth opened and was just saying..."Wow...wow...". All of a sudden, someone close to the front, or at the front of the Timmie's line yelled out..."Machine is up and running!" Everyone that had moved to the Wendy's lineup was now trying to get back into the Timmie's line up...and actually trying to get their places that they had before they moved. We were on vacation, so we weren't in any hurry. It was hilarious to watch.

I worked at Tim Hortons a long time ago when I was in highschool , back when the minimum wage was $6.85 it was that long ago. TH makes me very bitter. I shuddered when I saw one in Ohio. Many people have a lot of favourite moments about TH, But I truly feel for anyone who has decided to take a job there at any point of their life. I have worked as a server while going to university and since I quit have never had any customers who were any where near as rude to me as the customers at Timmy's.

Haha, I like it.

We had two Timmies in my college's building (which was shared with a Uni as well), and the ice cap machine was just a decoration, they never ever fixed it

I worked at a tim hortons too. I got fired. Thats my funny story. Well the story that goes along with it isn't too nice but I guess since we're all friends here I'll just spill it, I believe Jill knows this story, I may have told her.

I like to call this little diddy: JELLY DONUT OVERDOSE

So, I was working at a Tim Hortons part time. I was just 18 years old with a bit of an attitude and was your typical teenaged smartass. This man came in with his little wife, a big man, with a beard. He looked like a lumberjack! Anyways he came up, ordered a jelly donut, went to sit down with his wife... ate it. Came up ordered two more, went back to sit down with his wife and at that point I made a snide remark to my coworker:

"There's a heart attack waiting to happen!"

He came up once again for another donut and he had donut peices in his beard... no word of a lie. Jeezus just buy a dozen next time and save yourself the walk right?

Um so he gets to his seat and the next thing you know he falls over and his wife is screamining frantically. He had a heart attack. :(

So my supervisor gets me to call 911... and I tend to laugh during the most awkward times and I am sorry if that offends you but its more of a nervous laugh. Well I couldn't tell the operator where we were located or what happened because all I could do was laugh.

My supervisor quickly grabbed the phone from me and took charge and after she was finished on the phone she asked me to go home, and the next day called me in and decided it would be best to let me go.

Thats my story.

:D

I told you it wasn't pretty, but its MY story.

Donne moi une poptart!

You predicted someone's heart attack? You sure you're not psychic? Interesting way to get fired, none the less.

Its the only time I have ever been fired. I don't know if I predicted it, it was more ironic than anything.

Have you ever heard the sound an obese person makes when they fall on a floor? There's a bit of a splat, it's really weird.

But the fact that he was a large man, who was eating a large amount of jelly donuts, and made a loud splat sound when he hit the floor... it all tied in together with the things you think of when you think about jelly.

One of the first times I went to go visit Mel, we were taking a bus. It went through the normal busy stops and when it was about 2-3 stops from where we had planned on getting off, we noticed that we were the only passengers still on the bus. Then, I noticed the bus driver exit the bus, leaving it idling and proceed to cross the street, enter a Tim Horton's, and enter the queue. I was absolutely dumbfounded. I guess that is when I decided that I would give in and give it a try.

Ah yes..Timmie's. I was well worked there for 6 years. (I found myself feeling very old when I said that, it just feels so weird saying I worked anywhere for 6 years.) We had extremely polite and friendly customers, and we have alot of loathsome rude ones as well, but I still to this day haven't found a better cup of coffee, so it will always be a fond memory.

I remember when I was about 12 years old, I had been getting a Long John for my entire childhood, just out of habit. One day, my step-mom finally suggested I tried something different and got me an apple fritter. From the first bite, I felt like I had graduated into adulthood for eating such an grown-up sounding donut. It's still one of my faves to this day :star:

I dont really have a favorite Tim Story!! Im sitting at the inlaws right new in Middletown RI and chilling with a XL triple cream tims!! No nursing material to study!! Just chilling with my Tims, laptop and hearing the waves come slamming into the shore! Soo peaceful and quite and nice knowing my Nursing studies are 100% complete, and the next time I step into the hospital I will be signing ********** RN So i guess thats my favorite Tims story!!! Tims soon to be replaced by rum/coke!!

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1
