Well, I guess I'm probably considerably older than a lot of my fellow VJers and this is my first (and only!) discussion board of any kind since starting this process back in early 2006. Obviously my naivete is showing but that's OK, I'm learning. I never thought a website that was kindly set up to guide its members through the trials and tribulations of immigration (and does a wonderful job for the most part) would attract even one d$#%*&bag bent on being hurtful/unhelpful/nasty for no discernible reason. I would have thought there were a zillion other forums that would be more to their liking. Maybe Pollyanna should be my middle name, eh?

Is the 'OT' people are referring to the Off Topic stuff?

I personally don't think you are being a pollyanna about it Charlotte, I mean really, if you want to be a jerk, as you mentioned there are no doubt a gazillion places that would seem more likely places to hang out than a visa journey forum.

On the other hand, there is a captive audience here as people are stressed out and needing information and depending on their fellow VJers for help with their immigration - so I suppose that appeals to ze jerks.

Oh and you can't be that much of a pollyanna - you used the D word

and yes, the OT is the "Off Topic forum" - home to many of those who have finished their own visa journeys and feel the need to 'stay' being helpful - or otherwise.

As for this thread.... ----there's a vent thread, but apparently it was more of an attention seeking thread.... oh well.

Lots of threads are attention seeking, you had an episode of one the other day about peoples sign in names...........

It's pretty common place. As Sprailenes said, behind a keyboard people find it very easy to write things that they would never think of saying otherwise.

Some people are just honest. I feel like I'm one of those. I won't hold my tongue. But, I also think that I try to be mindful of others most of the time.

Sometimes people write things to convince themselves it is true.

vj is a large family, just like in ur home or where ever there are going to be days that some are rude some are just crabby but after about two years of being here i can honestly say that no matter what happens or who the person is they support us in ways that we could not find anyplace else on the net.

there are many ages on this site, some less tolerant, some thinking they know it all but hey thats a family.

i personally dont have any complaints sure sometimes i get my feelings upset but that happens to anyone, the key is if u cant handle the days that people are maybe feeling off and vent or have a way of making their idea or opinion strong dont go to that topic or thread, if they come on ur thread why fight just ignore.

seriously i wish i could be like some of the others that are so bold and have no problem voicing what they think about any topic, at least u know where u stand with them is better than wondering.

u just have to find how u fit into this family.

Troll much lately??

Talk about attention seeking. I for one play a lot in OT, hwoever provide information in the upper forums on subjects I know most about. Especially people bringing the kids after the spouse/fiance. If OT bothers you stay out, and as metioned since this is a public forum take the information you need and dispose of the rest. If certain members bother you by readin ghteir posts, place them on Ignore. Ingore is a wonderful thing.

Nicely put estadia

Get lost. Don't come around with a new user name and troll like this. You are proving Charlotte's point well actually. You have nothing better to do than to get a new user name so that no one knows who you are, and then feel confident enough to spit out some garbage. There you go, Charlotte! Case and point!

"...My hair's mostly wind,

My eyes filled with grit

My skin's white then brown

My lips chapped and split

I've lain on the prairie and heard grasses sigh

I've stared at the vast open bowl of the sky

I've seen all the castles and faces in clouds

My home is the prairie and for that I am proud…

If You're not from the Prairie, you can't know my soul

You don't know our blizzards; you've not fought our cold

You can't know my mind, nor ever my heart

Unless deep within you there's somehow a part…

A part of these things that I've said that I know,

The wind, sky and earth, the storms and the snow.

Best say that you have - and then we'll be one,

For we will have shared that same blazing sun." - David Bouchard

Regarding the troll, don't respond to him - ignore him and report the post to the moderators so we can take care of things, ok? Thanks. (You can consider this troll already reported :) ).

I know this should probably go in the rant and vent thread but it seems important enough to post seperately. Have you noticed there are a few VJers who lurk on this website and contribute only nasty or negative comments to those who have problems and really need guidance? It's really starting to piss me off. Some of these jerks (and I haven't noticed them in the Canadian sub-forum) are already naturalized for crying out loud. I find that a bit odd. No offense duckies but once I'm naturalized, I'll wish everyone a sincere good luck and goodbye and then I'm outta here! (Now if someone wants to stick around out of the goodness of their heart and offer sage and accurate advice, I think that's admirable). The negative stuff happened to me only at the very beginning of my immigration journey and it got so bad with one particular member that I sent him a private message and asked him in no uncertain terms to disregard any further postings from me.

Is there someone to whom we should report these bad apples?

I am sorry that you experienced negative responses to your questions. It is just a part of life that I wish didnt exist but it does. Ignore the negative adds and keep embrasing the positive ones.

Sorry, Kat! I shall do that the next time. Peed me off!

Personally I say stay as long as you like!

I get what you are saying about people being jerks - I mean they are here (not in the Canada forum) - but I think that is beside the point as to where they are in their immigration journey.

Aside from being an immigration forum, this is also a social forum.

Hey! What am I, chopped liver? :jest:

Well again, you'd be surprised. I asked a few questions once on a message board for stroke survivors regarding my dead grandmother who was a smoker and was told that she deserved it.

People are brave behind a keyboard.

:o Are you serious??

But what you say about people being brave behind a keyboard is true. Reminds me of this XKCD comic:
