Initial Advice

Hi Everybody! I've been browsing this forum for a couple weeks now, as my fiance and I are preparing to file at the end of this month. I've tried to scour the guides and threads for this information, but I wasn't able to find the answers I was looking for with regards to two areas:

1. My fiance is still in school until the end of this year, and as such when he fills out his G-325A it will be there that he is current unemployed. We've got the necessary sponsor for the affidavit of support when the interview time comes around, but will the unemployment be an issue at this early stage? Even though I know it will be requested later regardless, should we submit the affidavit of support with the initial package just in case?

2. With regards to the I-129 and declaring "Where your fiance intends to live", we would not have the specific address until further in this process once my interview is complete and we've gotten an apartment. (I don't really want to live with his present roommate... :P). That said, is it entirely necessary to have the specific address on the I-129? Or can that be changed later?

Thanks so much for your help! I was so terrified about this process and while we haven't filed yet, I already feel calmer having read so many stories and advice.

No - the affidavit of support is not to be submitted with the I-129f petition - you will take this with you to the interview at the Embassy/Consulate. When he fills out the G-325A and comes to the employment history, make sure he doesn't leave any gaps - if he (for example) is unemployed, he should list this in the employment history.

2. You could put something like "Undecided" or similar, it really doesn't matter, you're not held to this anyway .

It will not matter at this point, employment information and income info is most important at the consulate stage. No you don't need to send an affidavit of support with the I-129f petition because...A. Its not required and B. Its not part of the process to get the petition approved.

2. With regards to the I-129 and declaring "Where your fiance intends to live", we would not have the specific address until further in this process once my interview is complete and we've gotten an apartment. You need to list his present address as where you will be living, it is assumed you will be living with HIM and thats where he LIVES correct. They are not interested in your future plans to get an apartment, build a house or buy a condo, they just wanna know where you will be living the day you enter the US.

Thanks so much for your help! I was so terrified about this process and while we haven't filed yet, I already feel calmer having read so many stories and advice.

Good Luck

Thanks so much! For the most part that's what I was figuring with the employment history, but I didn't know we could put "undecided" (or his current address even though I have no intention of living there) on the I-129. :)

From what I've seen (including our own petition) most folks will list the address where the US Citizen Fiancé is living currently - just to keep things simple. You'll be able to update this down the road once you've entered the US, gotten married and begin the AOS stage.
