I-130 Approval

A friend of mine filed for an I-130 and he went to the interview, it was approved. However, his spouse is supposed to receive an appointment letter in the mail for an interview in Juarez, Mex. They are under the impression that since the I-130 was approved, she does not have to go through the interview in Juarez, and that she now has the approval she needs. Is this correct? Won't the I-130 approval expire is she does not go for the interview in Juarez?

PS - an approved I-130 is not a visa.

My friend, who is a US citizen filed for an I-130 for his wife who is a mexican citizen. He went to his interview and was told it was approved and was given a letter stating approval. However, he was told his wife must go to an interview in Juarez, Mexico, and that she will receive a letter in the mail with an appointment date. But for some reason, he is under the impression that the interview that is supposed to be set for his wife is not necessary and I don't think that is accurate. Just because he received an approval for the I-130, doesn't she still have to go through the interview process for the full approval?

u need to read the guide

I-130 is approval from the USCIS and u still need to go through NVC

NVC will assign u the date of interview after u submit all the required documents.

That's what I thought. Didn't sound right to me that is why I wanted to find out. What happens if she skips the appointment date? Will the I-130 approval expire? I would think so.

I-130 is the first step in visa process for wife

but they have to do the NVC that takes time

she has to send all her papers to NVC and then they will send her the interivew date

Thank you for the info. I will pass along. I don't want them to make a mistake and take bad advice that could hurt them in the end.

Just found out that the reason they want to skip the Juarez appointment is because now that they have the approved I-130, they are going to wait for an amnesty (if there ever is one). Is this possible to do?
