I think it explains that on the actual form itself, which is right here:

http://www.uscis.gov/files/form/I-134.pdf

They pretty much just have to swear that the person who immigrated wont become a public charge, which I think means needing government support.

Ok i read that. So if my kid gets ssi she will loose it and if i start getting my ssi and disability i cany get it?

The co-sponsor needs to be a USC or legal resident, and make enough for their own household as well as to support the immigrant should it become neccessary. They can be a friend, family member or co-worker, anyone. They have to pay no fees, but they will have to fill out a document with their financial details including tax docs and salary info. If all goes well and your fiance finds work quickly once he gets here the co-sponsor will not pay anything, but if your fiance/ later husband needs public assistance, the government will come after the co-sponsor to get their money back.

for a two personfamily ( if your child you mentiond does not live with you ) you have to make 17,500

for a three person family you have to make 22,000

if you do not make this much you cannot support him on the I-134 alone, you HAVE to get a sponsor

it is free to sponsor but if he becomes on welfair or some form of government compensation the government will go after you and your sponsor to repay EVERYTHING that he takes from the government.

Wait, so when you fill out that form, the fiance has to make enough for 2 if he's/she's living by himself?

I always thought he/she had to make just enough for one + 25%.

You are asking about getting a visa to enter Algeria? Then the U.S. poverty guidelines don't apply. Just state your income and let it go at that.

She gets food stamps...................I think we are the only country in the world that does that

You have to make enough for the whole household that will be living together when the immigrant arrives. So if there is a couple only, no kids, it's 2 people.

Im talking after i go meet my fiance and i come back to do his paperwork. If I'm on food stamps is this going to stop us from being together? And my income is only about $900 month

ahhhh...yes, you will need a cosponsor for him to obtain a K-1 visa. After he arrives, plan to spend more than $1,000 on fees so he can obtain his green card. The same cosponsor can fill out some more forms at that time. But once he begins working, then it can reduce your SSI and foodstamp benefits. Your child, up to age 16, "might" continue to receive benefits, depending on your state's policies.

It is a government program enabling those in poverty to purchase food by using certificates that are issued to them according to their basic needs and income level.

i don't know if this has been quoted yet but i found it in the tips section

"Not having adequate income will not usually be a problem if you have a co-sponsor, according to experiences

posted on the newsgroup, as long as the co-sponsor has adequate income/assets.

Be aware that the co-sponsor must have enough income/assets for both your fiance, any fiance children that will

be immigrating, and his/her own household. However, that IF the US fiance has been on welfare or other

government benefits for a lifetime or has no plans to work actively, the consulate can still deny the visa based on

the likelihood that the foreign fiance will become a public charge. Just having a co-sponsor may not be sufficient.

An actual case has been documented wherein a fiance visa was denied because the petitioning fiance was on

government benefits and would not be working, even though the US fiance had two co-sponsors."

even with a co-sponsor if you plan to be on government benefits like disability for a while then this could affect the outcome as far as i understand
