Got my K1, but How to Adjust Status?

Hi Everyone,

The great news is I got my K1 with little to no difficulty at the interview in Montreal. In fact, I got it the same day as my interview since we were planning on getting married the following week. Which we did! HOO RAY!

Now, I'm going through the paper work for the adjustment of status. Most of it is boilerplate, but many of the documents are asking for an alien registration number. Do you know where I find mine or how it relates to K1 visas? Or do I use the number on my I-94 that I got at Customs in Toronto?

I want to get this paper work done as fast as possible since I want to be able to work soon, so I am filling out the I-765 as well.

Thanks! So glad the first part of the journey is over!

Jay

Hi Jay! Congrats on your wedding! Your alien registration number or "A number" can be found on your K-1 visa. Its on the bottom under where it says who petitioned you. Its 8 digits long... "A#xxxxxxxx"

Yes, it's on your K-1 Visa. It was also hand written on the back of my I-94, but not everyones I'd assume.

Good luck with your AOS! You can find example forms here on VJ as well (I think under guides) that helped me alot

Thanks, guys.

But I'm a little confused still. I have a very long control number, then a number in red that is eight digits long. This red number is not the same as the one on the back of my I94. I'm assuming it is the number in red. under the expiration date of the visa. Can anyone confirm this?

Thanks!

Sorry! I just want to get this right!

Well the alien number actually says "A" followed by 8 numbers, do you see Anumber on the K-1?

Just look at your visa page like the others said above, it's the number that starts with A

The Lord is my strength and my shield,

My heart trusted in Him and I am helped,

therefore my heart greatly rejoices,

and with my song I will praise Him.

Psalm 28:7

You see at the bottom where it says...

Annotation

PETTN: xxx- xxxxxxxxxx

PET. EXP: (date visa expires)

PETR: (petitioner name)

A#xxxxxxxx

Thanks. I don't have any number that starts with A. There is a control number, an eight digit in red that has no heading but is slightly across from the word annotation. I've emailed the consulate, but if you guys can confirm that the number is eight digits, I'll assume the ones in red are mine.

Thanks. Sorry for the hassles.

Don't be sorry! It's just odd that you don't have an "A" number listed on your visa...

I'm looking at mine right now... it's definitely not the control number.... It's not the red number towards the bottom (I have a red number too but it doesn't match my A#).... Do you have a spot on your visa that says "Annotation" then it says EAC- with a bunch of numbers and dashes.... Then "pet exp"... do you have any of that of yours? Towards the bottom left

My Alien number wsn't on my visa. It was however on my K-1 NOA2 form near the top right corner above my name in the box marked Applicant. It was nine numbers thought the first was a zero. A 0XX-XXX-XXX

Edit: In fact, my visa looks totally different than the one posted above. Weird.

Ok, my NOA 1 has an "INS Receipt Number". Is this what they mean when they say "Alien Receipt" number? It is thirteen digits long and has three letters to start the sequence.

And my visa also looks different than the photo.

Again, gang, thanks for the help here.
