Have any of you ever had to do this? Did you feel a lot of guilt?

I'm trying to re-home my little guy Oscar because it's just becoming a problem for Jared and I. He has so much energy and we don't have the time for him.

I got a call today from a lady who is interested. After I got off the phone with her I felt a little sad.

I've lain on the prairie and heard grasses sigh

I've stared at the vast open bowl of the sky

I've seen all the castles and faces in clouds

My home is the prairie and for that I am proud…

You can't know my mind, nor ever my heart

Unless deep within you there's somehow a part…

I'm not really giving my cat away but I am leaving him in Canada with my grandparents. My fiance is deathly allergic to the cat and it sucks because he really loves the cat but he gets horribly sick every time he comes to visit me here in Montreal.

I'm TOTALLY feeling guilty about leaving him with my grandparents even though I know they love him to death and will take very good care of him and he'll be spoiled immensely. I'll miss him terribly though and it would have been nice to have him at the house in Florida when I move down and an stuck at home not being able to work.

Free to a good home. That's all I ask.

He's a good dog, he's not bad. It's just with him AND Bella is so costly with the dog walkers and the vet bills and I will walk him for 2 hours and he still wants to go nuts.

But then you look at him and it steals your heart away... :(

Why is it that the only one who can stop the crying is the one who started it in the first place?

I hate when they do that... :wub:

My husband has that type of face too. But seriously it will be so super hard. I had to put my doggie to sleeo a few years ago he was sick and in pain nothing they could do.. I cry now thinking about it and it was 7 years ago....

Why is it that the only one who can stop the crying is the one who started it in the first place?

That kinda leaves the knot in my stomach, too. She's an older, single lady. She has another beagle. I don't think she walks her dog. I think she just lets him in the back. I really want someone who is going to WALK him. Just because you leave your dog in the backyard, it doesn't mean they are getting exercise.

Aw. I don't know if you'd consider this, but my sister adopted a lovely pooch from a family like yours. They were overwhelmed with the dog, the cost, didn't have time for him really. Free to a good home, so my sister adopted him. Their only request was that it would be an "open" adoption, they still wanted to see him sometimes, maybe spend a weekend at their home now and again. Also get e-mail updates with pics when they can. So around once every 2 months, the old family picks up Charlie and has him for the weekend, then brings him back to my sister's house. They still wanted to be part of Charlie's life in a way, but didn't have time for him full-time. So it made it easier on the family giving him up.

And I live in an apartment work two jobs if nots I would be driving to where you are. I always have a dog until I moved up here to NJ. Too hard with apartment living right now. I haz a sad I wish I could take him for you :cry: Mine would have been an open one

Ah Amanda,

I am sorry - that is a sad place in which to be. I think if you can make arrangements with whomever adopts Oscar that you can 'visit' or get updates it will help to reassure you. Let your vet know as well - they may have someone who has recently lost a dog who is looking for a young dog and your vet can sort of 'validate' that he will be in good hands. The other consideration with this older lady is that she seems to have a fenced yard and another dog - there is good evidence that the dogs will run around and play together so he will get exercise that way as well. Maybe there will be a neighbourhood child who would love to take her dogs for a walk as well.

Well I've been talking it out with Nevada. I think I'm under-estimating what we do for him. With Jared's days off during the week and the time I spend with them on the weekend, they are rarely actually alone. Some weeks maybe 3 days max.

The past few days he's really been okay and shown signs of settling a little bit. Maybe I'm just thinking too much into it.

The cost is huge but we've been okay so far.

He's healthy. We give him lots of exercise, even if we dont have a big backyard.

Maybe it's been me and not him lately. :lol:

If you HAVE to give away your pet, I'd recommend your nearest SPCA if you can't find someone yourself. My wife and I volunteer with the BCSPCA and they take fantastic care of the animals and have a very thorough screening process for potential owners.
