Tempary green card lost

I visited China in May, and lost my card while i was in China. I had to postpone my flight and go to the US embassy in Beijing where I was given a return letter. I returned back to US with the letter safely and smoothly. However I didn't apply for a replacement of the card, thinking i would apply for removal of conditions.

I submitted petition to remove the conditions when i came back to US in June, and just received appointment for biometrics, in which I were asked to bring in green card among other things. I have a photo copy of the card. Now I'm concerned. Are the photo copy of the card along with the return letter from the US embassy good and sufficient? Are there anyone had similary problems like this? Can you share your experience?

Thanks a lot.

When hubby went to BIo appointment they did not want to see his drivers license they wanted to see his GC, just FYI.......

Why is it that the only one who can stop the crying is the one who started it in the first place?

Which is only logical sister NArocks. As a permanent resident, we have to carry the original GC with us at all times; and are obliged by law to report it missing -which the OP did do- and file for a replacement as soon as possible -which the OP didn't do-.

now, since it is so close to her ROC and new card being done; maybe she won't have much problems; but I would not bank on that.

Another option is to file for the replacement card and keep a copy of the receipt.

Not sure if you can apply online for a replacement card online. If that is the case, then you should get the receipt right away.

I believe, it should not be a problem for the Biometrics. You have a copy of the card and also the letter.

Should'nt be an issue, but you should apply for the duplicate GC ASAP.

What is "OP"?

I did reported it missing to the immigration officer at US ambassy in Beijing. However I didn't file for replacement b/c the deadline for sending in petition for ROC was approaching soon, and I didn't want to miss the deadline.

Thaks a lot.

Would it make the situtation complicated when I have two cases pending at USCIS, one for ROC, and one for replacement of the missing card? Would it confuse the officers and cause them to reject both? From my past experience dealing with USCIS, many of the officers are simply go-by-the-book type of clerks. They either are not capabale of analysing and synthesizing and combinning cases, or they don't want to go beyond their daily works.

Thanks a lot.

Sorry to sound harsh; but the situation you are in is not USCIS fault. It was your negligence of not filing for a replacement card. Cannot blame USCIS on this one.

for my biometric, i was asked to just bring my appointment notice and photo identification. so for the photo identification i just presented my passport and they were ok with it. but yes i have submitted fotocopy of my greencard with my evidences for ROC. are they asking GC from you specifically? If not passport or license are enough for biometric..

You will need to, as dumb and unfortunately expensive as it will be, get a new 2 year green card. It will be asked for at the biometric appointment if at no other time during Removal of Conditions.

I have no experience of Infopass (others can advise) but an appointment might possibly be worth pursuing. Explain to them what has happened and see what they tell you to do.

Any time you break the rules you are in a no-man's land with doubt as how to proceed. It just isn't worth it.

As I said in another post that was for some incredible reason censored I am constantly surprised at the number of people that decide not to update their address, or replace a lost card or file late because they were busy...and so on. This is SO important that I just don't understand it. It is playing Russian roulette with your future here in the US.

Anyway, I hope it all works out for the best for you. Wait to see if others agree that an Infopass appointment might be worth pursuing.

Good luck...

I agree with wexford about an infopass, they may be able to help you. For me personally, I never recieved my NOA for ROC and my greencard was about to expire and infopass appointment helped me to obtain a stamp in my passport - that is not uncommon but the point is when I went to my biometrics the lady wanted my green card which I no longer had just the new temp stamp and she insisted on having the old card until I pointed out that the old one is expired and cut up - this pass is proof that I already had a green card before and shows my status now which she accepted. So I was able to get by without the original card by having a stamp. Perhaps infopass can help.
