It's awesome to hear that a few people that applied for AOS at roundabout the same time I did are getting their GC's. Hope mine comes soon. :(

Anyways, my husband and I are thinking about going and getting me a driver's license just so I have a piece of state ID, but he's worried that I'll have to do the whole deal - written exam and a driving exam.

For those that have theirs already, what process did you have to go through? *I know this will vary from state to state, I'm just curious. :)

In north carolina they said that until i get the green card they can only issue me a drivers license good for 6 months. Also, he said that they do have to have a written test but it's a case by case basis for the driving test and he usually doesn't require it.

In Tennessee I needed to show 2 proofs of residency (name on a lease, bills etc), and I needed a drivers abstract (that was less than 30 days old) from my former porvince. I needed my passport as form of ID and my SSN. I originally went in as soon as I had my SSN and got a temp licence valid for the duration of my I-94. Once I had my EAD I went in and had it renewed for the validity of my EAD (~ 1yr). I had to do a little vision test, but no written or driving test. It really varies a lot from state to state, so your best bet is to head down to the DMV and find out for sure. Here is a link to the Iowa DMV website and a section on Foreign Nationals....there should be some info there as well DMV

Good Luck

Yeah,I've heard varying stories on what's required and what testing has to take place. My husband has to renew his this month, so our plan was to go with him and find out what I need and what I'll have to do.

Thanks for the info. I think I'll just take all my info when I go with my husband when he goes in to renew his license this month and see what I need and what I can get.

Here in Kentucky Mathew had to retake the written and drivers test if he wanted to get his drivers license. However, theres information on the DMV website saying that as long as he was from a Geneva Compact country all he had to do was present his visa and I-94 and that would be good enough to get his license. Try telling that(and even handing them the paper that said it was okay to do this) to some severely incompetent workers and all you'll get is a headache. :(

Oh well, at least he didn't have to wait for his EAD or Greencard to get it. For that, I consider us lucky.

Sean had to surrender his Canadian license. He didn't have to take any tests.

Congratulations!

Hey Arabella, did you hear anything about your case after submitting the medical?

We haven't submitted the medical yet.

I posted this somewhere else, but we got ahold of Dr. Seidon's office and they said they could MAIL (not fax), us a copy of the medical, but not until 11/08 because the person who mails them was on vacation.

Sean had an INFO PASS appointment last week on 11/04, and was told by the immigration office that CS must RECEIVE the original medical by 11/09, since that is the expiration date. That doesn't seem fair since our AOS was submitted on 5/23, but whatever. So obviously there is no way the medical can go from Canada in the mail, to us in Florida, to CSC in one day.

Sean had a second medical on 11/09/10. He had to get 3 shots, do bloodwork, and have a TB skin test. He went for the bloodwork on 11/10, and went for the follow up for the TB skin test on 11/11. We are now waiting for the blood tests results. Once those come back, we'll get our sealed medical and send it off to CSC. They gave us until 11/27 to get the medical to them (how thoughtful to give us a whole 3 weeks minus the Thanksgiving break /sarcasm).

We applied on August 23rd, had my Bio on Oct. 1... yeah, it does seem fast. I would've had it sooner if I started after we got married at the end of May, but I procrastinate.

At least I'm getting it all taken care of before the holidays, so I can fly back to BC in the new year and spend some time with my family.

Hang in there Arabella, I hope you get your GC soon!

Also, as far as I know, the record for GC through CSC (after transfer) is 37 days!!!

KnR aka slider100

We got the medical back today. The civil surgeon ONLY did the I-693. He didn't do any of the other DS forms that I gave him. I compared the forms, and the I-693 is very similar in content to the DS forms from the fiance Visa. If people who adjust status without fiances Visas only need the I-693, then I think we'll be ok because why would we need the I-693 and the DS forms? Also, after re-reading the RFE, while they mention that they could not find they DS forms from the fiance Visa, they only ask for the I-693.

I'm going to send everything off tomorrow. I made a copy of the I-693 before they sealed it up. :)
