dima had his first margarita last weekend. he said it tasted like kvas. wtfreak- i think kvas tastes like a$$ and margaritas are delicious!

Umm...are you sure he was drinking a margarita? Or better yet, are you sure he's ever tasted kvas? Either that or it's like AK said, the margarita was made with something other than margarita stuff, and he should probably go in for a preventative tetanus shot now. :)

Agreed

Have him drink some bath water and see what he thinks.

Apparently there is some sort of moratorium while I am unemployed, cinnamon rolls yes, pie no!!

My wife has a saying, "no money, no honey." I'm not sure if that applies to pie and cinammon rolls too or if it's just for the honey.

p.s.s. maybe your mom thinks wings are WT. get her some boneless ones that can be eaten with a fork with a can of PBR poured into a tall glass. priyatnago appyetita!

So PBR is not WT if it's disguised in a tall glass? And chicken wings cease being WT as well, provided the bones have been removed?

Obviously you've never been to Hooters on UFC night.

IIRC, it's called a Cossack. Never had one, the thought of Vodka and beer churns my stomach.

Ive never been one to enthusiastically mix beer and liquor(I prefer to drink them separately but on the same night)

As far as the wing thing goes, my mother just doesnt like them. Dont know why she just doesnt but she will eat pickled beets out of the jar so there is no accounting for taste.

Still no pie baking from the wife but she is making a delicious from scratch homemade chocolate cake.

My ex-partners in Belarus used to say "vodka without beer is wasted money". I am told that is a popular saying in Eastern Europe. No one suggested making a cocktail of the two that I recall

you mean like "vodka- cold" in hip flask

If that's what floats your boat, fine. I'm fond of cognacs from Dagestan, especially Лезгинка. Armenian cognac's are really good too -- but nowadays maybe its a stretch to consider them Russian. (Russian is the dominant language in the Armenian liquor store here in Denver, though, and the labels are usually trilingual with Russian, English, and, I'm guessing, Armenian.)

Baltica beers are good, but not distinctive enough for me to go out of my way to buy them. Anyone know where you can buy Dagestani cognac here in the USA?

Not my boat, but it is the most common drink I have been offered in Russia, on the bench in airports, on the trans-siberian rail, on the buses and trolleys, and in the villages as part of celebrations.

You're right on that! The best vodka I ever had was some homemade stuff made by my stepson's paternal grandfather on the occasion of the stepson's wedding. Vodka is cheaper than their domestic cognacs. But seems now that my closest friends there, with one exception, don't drink vodka but do like their cognac.

Maybe its a status thing, cognac has a much higher status than vodka. One is made from grapes the other from potatoes or grains.

Homemade stuff? I wonder if you mean samogon?
