so my fiance and i got our NOA2 for our k1 petition.

i'm wondering what to do next, i know i have to wait for them to send me a package.

i've heard of people calling NVC then calling the embassy to make an appointment.

should i be doing this too or is it a bunch of work for nothing? or do i just wait patiently for my package from Montreal?

i understand this package will have my medical letter which is needed to make a medical appointment , is this correct?

thank you for your input, i've been reading up on this but the approval came faster than expected

Hi Missa!

I see you're from Sudbury so you'll be using the consulate in Montreal. What will happen next, is the USCIS will send your petition to the NVC, who then sends it off to Montreal. The NVC stage can take anywhere from a few days, to a few months if you're really unlucky! After Montreal recieves and logs your case, they will send you your packet 3. This contains information on what documents and forms to gather for your interview. You will need to get a criminal records check done, make sure you have a long form birth certificate with parental information, a passport valid for the next year, any divorce or custody documents if applicable, and arrange to have a medical done with a USCIS approved pannel physician. Unfortunately there are only 4 in Canada: One in Vancouver, one in Toronto and two in Montreal. You will need to have your medical completed before your interview date. For an interview in Montreal you'll likely wait around 2 months for an interview date after they recieve the few documents they ask you to return with your packet 3 (document checklist, form DS 230 pt.1, and DS 160 completed online)

Sorry if this is information overload! While you're waiting on your packet 3 from Montreal, it might be a good idea to start gathering those documents you'll need!

Congrats on the approval! :)

Hello and congrats for your approval.

You are right, you basically have to wait for your package. Some people, like myself, couldn't deal with "just waiting" and called NVC to know when they received the package and when did they send it to the appropriate embassy or consulate. From experience, I think calling is a good idea cause they do make mistakes (as they did with our file) and some could get lost in the mail. The number is 603-334-0700.

When Montreal will receive your file, they'll send the packet 3. you then have to call DOS to know about your appointment:202-663-1225 and not montreal directly.

As for the medical I think your have to wait for Montreal to have your file so you can give your MTL file number to the Dr's office.

Hope that helps a little and good luck!

You will get a package in the mail from Montreal. It will contain a checklist and instructions on the next set of forms you need to fill out.

Once you complete the checklist or are pretty sure you'll be able to get everything before your interview then just mail it all back to them. At that point you'll be put in the queue to wait for your interview.

Removing Conditions

Sent package to VSC - 8/12/11

NOA1 - 8/16/11

thank you for all of your information. i will be patient

i was also wondering about the police certificate.

i was told to get a canada wide name check as i do not have a criminal record and that this is what immigration expects for the interview. is this correct?

is this enough? or will i eventually have to get the criminal record check that takes a long time ( i hard up to 6 months) and uses finger prints?

I actually just got mine today. I got it from the Police headquarters in Downtown Toronto, as that's closest to me, and it was 25 dollars plus 5 dollars for another copy. It took them 2 weeks to get it to me, I have no criminal record, and it was pretty easy. Just make sure it's a Canada wide/RCMP check but that's pretty easy to figure out.

If you need more information, PM me and I'll forward you the details.

Best.

LGG.

That's all I know as I did not do a K1

Would have taken me 10 minutes in Sheho!

;)

Also, for the Canada wide check... I can suggest you go to a small city - or call in advance to ask how long and how much, since it varies. I went to the Edmonton police and they told me it would take 6-8 weeks... WTH!!!! Then I went to St. Albert and it was done in 72 hours. :)

Go down to the police station on Brady street, go upstairs and tell the nice ladies your are a US visa applicant. They will give you the proper form to fill out, pay the 25.35 and you can pick up your canada wide police certificate thing in one week. I picked mine up today.

Mine also cost me 40$ and I had to get it done at IFS downtown in Montreal because there are only 2 places you can get the background check done here and the police stations won't do it.

But I got my little yellow paper back within 5 days. But I also went on a Friday so it took a little longer than normal because of the weekend  But I got it and thats all that matters...lol
