Is it unusual for US green card holders and citizens to want to move to Singapore. I am from Eastern Europe and Singapore was my first country to travel to and loved it there very much. Every now and then I am thinking of moving there. Perhaps after getting my graduate degree, I will make the move. It will be challenfing to convince my husband..but one never knows.

Has any green card holder move to Sg after going through the immigration process in the US? I'll be happy to hear your stories :)

I'm still in the process of my K1 visa so I'm not a GC holder but I've stayed in Singapore for several months and I liked it there. I actually mentioned to my fiance before about moving to Singapore if given a chance. He's fine with it though honestly, it will be difficult considering he has another responsibility to his family in US. And moving anywhere far from them will make it difficult for him to work on it.

Is it unusual for GC holders and citizens to move to Sg? I don't think so. There are so many foreigners living in Singapore, name it, you'll have it. It is a multi-cultural country. The country is also nice and clean. I don't know much about the crime rate but when I was there, I felt safe.

For a Filipina like me, another advantage of living in Sg will be the fact that it's near the Philippines. If ever, I can visit home as often as I can without having to worry about expensive airfares. :P

I have heard SG is very small country. Never been there before. It's very nice there. I also heard the weather is very dry, and hot in Summer?

if you can carve out a good life for yourself there, why not...i've heard only good things about it. maybe their chewing gum law is a bit excessive but it is nice to know that people care so much about their country to make such a decree lol...

Singapore is a multiracial so it is not unusual for GC holders or citizens to move here. I'm a resident of Singapore and i'm keeping my residency here even I get my GC. I'm working in MNL company and most of my officemates were from US or UK and they loved it here.

This is my own opinion, Singapore is good for money but not good when you have family.

I have friend who is a resident of Singapore who went for an immigration process. He was in US for 4-5months but because of the recession he was transferred back here and we have same opinion. He will definitely go back to US to start his own family.

1. If your a permanent resident of Singapore, and you have a boy, he is liable to register for National Service (Army) at the age of 16. He will serve Singapore for 2years and he needs to go back to army every year until he reached 40yrs old this depends on his rank.

http://www.ica.gov.sg/page.aspx?pageid=151#ns

Also, in my case as I'm the main applicant if my hubby wants to be resident here he is required to join NS. I heard that a guy should be at age of 35 for him to be exempted to NS but hubby is only 25 yrs old.

2. They have their own english, they called it Singlish and I don't like it. Even though my english is not good I don't want to teach wrong English to my kid/s or rather I should say that I want my kid/s to have environment with correct english.

I asked my friend, "Have you had your lunch?" and she answered me back "No lah, i'm busy lah, how ah?". I went to MCdo they asked me "Eating here or Take away" (Dine in or take out).

3. Expensive. Singapore ranked as 2nd most expensive city in asia.

http://yoursdp.org/index.php/news/singapor...ve-city-in-asia

Here's a forum i saw months ago, when i was trying to explain to my in-laws that my hubby can't come here. Plus the fact that he is working in a US law firm. US Law and Singapore Law is different. He needs to study Singapore Law if he will stay here.

http://www.xpatxperience.com/makinghome/si...of_living.shtml

The total annual income to live here comfortably must be at least 78,000SGD (56,934USD)nett

that's only for me and Hubby. How about if we have kid/s??

Another forum I saw....

Above are some of my reasons why I don't want to have a family here....

it is good to live here if you have no kids/family and if your single. It is very expensive here in Singapore. working here is great but if you want a comfortable life, cheap housing, and you want to save money, Singapore is not your place. Food here are great, you have many choices because Singapore is a multi cultural country.
