Finally got my NOA2!

This is much earlier then I was originally planning for I thought I had a good six weeks to go, luckily I've mailed off my daughters passport application and started getting all of our immunizations done. A few questions which I'm sure have been answered before or are on a case by case basis but maybe someone can help save me time sifting through old forums.

1) Hep B is a 6 month vaccine, does the vancouver consulate require it to be complete or merely in progress to give you the actual Visa?

2) My daughter is 4, there is no father listed on her birth certificate and he's only met her twice, we do not have custody arrangments of any kind because that has never been an issue. Will I need to track him down and get a notarized letter of consent even though he is not listed on the birth certificate?

3) Has anyone had any luck with getting the Vancouver embassy to open a temporary file and mail packet 3 before they receive your case from the NVC?

Thanks for any help or insight.

Congratulations on your NOA2!!

I can't answer your other questions, but as far as Packet 3 from Vancouver. All Packet 3 entails from Vancouver is a letter stating that they have received your petition, with VAN case number and directs you to access Packet 3 by downloading the checklist from their website. You can definitely get a head start on gathering needed documents listed on the Packet 3 before Vancouver sends you a letter stating that they have received the petition from NVC.

Ok just looked at Pkt 3 from VAN

CUSTODY: Your child(dren), if under 21 and unmarried, may also receive a visa. Children must have their own

passports. You must show that you have sole custody for each non-U.S. citizen unmarried child under 18 who will be

accompanying you to the United States or present a notarized consent statement from the child’s other parent stating that

s/he has no objection to the child(dren)’s immigration to the United States.

Congrats on the NOA2

Hep B just needs to be started,

As for consent from the father I think you should check with a Lawyer that may be a tricky one.

Vancouver may say you have to have it but if the lawyers say you don't need it maybe they can make some kind of court order allowing the move.

I found this link and you may want to track him down and get consent or talk to a lawyer looks like not having him listed does'nt really mean much. At least thats how I read it.

Good luck

Congrats on your NOA2!! Can't really help out with the other questions, sorry. Just get everything in order as quickly as possible. I hope you're able to track down her father, in case you need a letter.

The custody requirements are so strange. What if you honestly had no idea who the father was? It does happen! Without his name being on the birth certificate who's to say he is really even the father? It would be stupid if you needed a letter from a person who has never made an attempt to be a dad!

But anyways, as Ontarkie said the vaccination only needs to be started.

I've been pondering that myself, I read an interview summary a long time ago I can't even remember if it was at a Canadian Embassy but the interviewer asked her about the father and she said she didn't know and that was good enough to get her a visa. I wish I could track that interview summary down again to see if it was Canadian. Unfortunaly I have a child support order so that whole scenaria would be fairly useless.

Thanks for all the congrats's =D

If you have a child support order then I think you will have to track him down, as somewhere on papaer he is the father, even if its not on her birth certificate.

Glad to hear the good news! I don't know that you have to have anything from the "father" as he's not listed on the BC. You should have this checked out though. You don't want any surprises.
