I have changed my name to my husbands, my birth cert. still stays the same and I used my old maiden name passport for all the USCIS and NVC stuff.

On all my forms and documents, I list myself as LGG Married name nee Maiden name on everything, just so that they know. I mean they can see my marriage cert and my husband's name and it all matches.

Do you think it's going to be a problem? for all our NVC stuff I did this? LGG Married name nee Maiden name.

Yeek!

Now i'm second guessing myself.

For the DS 230, they ask for other names used so I felt justified in doing this. I am in the midst of changing my passport to my married name and will bring both to the interview.

I just mean that where it asks to list my name I used my married name and then nee which means born, maiden name. It shows them that I am taking his last name but they'll refer to me as both for their filings' sake.

yes that is fine. As long as you are not writing " Sara Smith nee Jones" in all the boxes, because they have a special box for previous names. So you would write "Sara Smith", then in the spot for previous names you can write "Sara Jones"

You're fine. Not to worry. The biggest thing at the interview for us was under what name I wanted my green card, generally they go with whatever name is listed in the passport.

My situation,,, I used married name on everything,,, except passport copy to NVC was maiden name... When they processed the DS-230 they changed the name on the file to maiden name... And, since married name now on passport... Will be changed to married name at the interview time when visa is issued.

That's good. I just wanted to make sure that I wasn't making things harder for them on the other end but really? It's not possible when they can see all the ID and documents that I sent them with the names that all match. Maiden, married, his and mine.

Just a little heads up regarding changing your passport. You will need two pieces of ID in your married name. I changed my driver's license and health card first. When I went to apply for a passport in my married name they were not even interested in my marriage certificate!

^^ Yes. You will need to apply for a new passport, not a renewal. This does require 2 forms of ID in your married name. I had my licence and health card as well, those take time to change so you should begin soon.

ANd ugh, more paperwork for me to go and change! Weeee! I actually don't have a license but I called the passport office and she said my healthcard with my married name and my marriage certificate will be just fine. For anyone else in my boat.

If you're short on time or simply don't want to change the name on your passport because it has a long validity period remaining, you can always ask them to issue your visa in your married name with an annotation linking it to your maiden name

They did this in Sydney for me and I don't see why other Consulates/Embassies can't do it also.

All my official documents I received after arriving in the US are in my married name (green card, SS card, bank accounts, etc)

I feel naked right now koz I got my passport chopped up this week as I changed it to my married name finally!

In Australia if you do it within the first yr of marriage it's free!
