Marriage in Texas & SSN

Can anyone who's already done the K-1 in Texas tell me if my Canadian fiancee must have a SSN when applying for the marriage license? The morons at my County Clerk office can't seem to agree if it's needed or not. The Montreal consulate says that Texas must issue the marriage license based on the K-1 without a SSN, but I doubt that my County Clerk is going to believe me.

You shouldn't need it in any state. Just leave it blank. Sorry you are dealing with stupid people at the clerk's office.

"...My hair's mostly wind,

My eyes filled with grit

My skin's white then brown

My lips chapped and split

I've lain on the prairie and heard grasses sigh

I've stared at the vast open bowl of the sky

I've seen all the castles and faces in clouds

My home is the prairie and for that I am proud…

If You're not from the Prairie, you can't know my soul

You don't know our blizzards; you've not fought our cold

You can't know my mind, nor ever my heart

Unless deep within you there's somehow a part…

A part of these things that I've said that I know,

The wind, sky and earth, the storms and the snow.

Best say that you have - and then we'll be one,

For we will have shared that same blazing sun." - David Bouchard

Don't know what county you're in but the requirements for Dallas County only list:

A valid form of photo identification, such as a current driver's license, current passport, certified copy of a birth certificate (issued in the past 10 years), or current military identification is required.

Call the clerks office back and ask if you can get it waived by a judge. We were married in Louisiana, which requires a SSN & 72 hr wait period. It took us 5 minutes to get these requirements waived by judge.

i foudn this site and it contains the necessary requirements for a marriage license http://www.usmarriagelaws.com/search/unite...tes/index.shtml

and it said there that the requirements are:

Certified copy of birth certificate; or valid driver's license or other acceptable I.D. issued by the state, another state, the United States, or a foreign government.

• Either bring your Social Security card or know your Social Security number.

• If you want to use your maiden name on the license bring a certified copy of your birth certificate or a certified copy of your divorce decree that states name is to be changed to maiden name.

If all else, get married in Vegas.

But yeah, I was about to get married in TX but I needed a SSN.

So we tied the knot in Vegas. :3

and u were able to do that without a SSN? hmm the site said you should at least know ur SSN .. so i guess my fiance will have to call his county and explain our situation maybe we can still have a marriage license.. but that's me being really hopeful lol

You do not need a SSN to marry in Las Vegas, trust me. It's called the City of Sin for a reason.

What I meant is, I could not marry in El Paso, TX because I was required to have a SSN.

Whether you need a SSN or not depends on the county in which you wish to get married.

But Las Vegas is like, a sure fire way to tie the knot.

You get the license right when you go, and it's good right away, for an entire year.

It was $60 or so, to get the license.

Most states allow you to obtain a marriage license in a specific county and then use that license anywhere in the state. As long as there's 1 country somewhere in Texas that allows you to get the license without an SSN, then its probably not a problem. If they tell you the SSN is required then really put up a fight, ask to talk to a supervisor, and explain the terms of your visa and I hopefully they would allow you to get the license with your passport only. Its worth a try at least!

Your other option, if time permits, is to enter the US, apply for the SSN and then wait until you receive it to marry. It only took me a week to get mine, so you might get lucky.

I followed that link and looked at the requirements for my State (Florida). The information they have is absolutely unequivocably wrong in so many areas. I would ditch that site and go directly to the official site for your State and County. I have no idea where those people got their information from, but it is WRONG.

I married in Florida without an SSN.
