Hello,

I recently sent away for the long form version of my BC and got a certified photocopy from the province. Is this good enough for my interview?

Thanks!

You need to show the original at the interview... I don't think a photocopy would be good enough, even certified. You could always e-mail the consulate to confirm!

If you received it from the Province and it has the correct seal, then it counts as a certified copy and is acceptable.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

Yes, it's a certified sealed copy of the original provided by the province of ontario. Thing is, I don't think the province would send out the original anyway so this might be the best I could.

The Canadian Government keeps all the original records, for their files. I ordered a long form as well, and if you look at the bottom right corner of it, it will have the impression from the Government office, showing that it is an authentic certified copy from the Canadian Government. In Canada there is no way for you to obtain the original document.

You're good to go, dude.

"...My hair's mostly wind,

My eyes filled with grit

My skin's white then brown

My lips chapped and split

I've lain on the prairie and heard grasses sigh

I've stared at the vast open bowl of the sky

I've seen all the castles and faces in clouds

My home is the prairie and for that I am proud…

If You're not from the Prairie, you can't know my soul

You don't know our blizzards; you've not fought our cold

You can't know my mind, nor ever my heart

Unless deep within you there's somehow a part…

A part of these things that I've said that I know,

The wind, sky and earth, the storms and the snow.

Best say that you have - and then we'll be one,

For we will have shared that same blazing sun." - David Bouchard

A guarantor....I dunno....I would assume a government seal would be pretty much the most legit guarantor there is

Yeah i'm not sure, I think maybe Sam and Ben were talking about a passport.

The copy you ordered is fine.

A list of acceptable documents is here btw:

It's not the Canadian (Federal) government that keeps birth, marriage and death records. It's the provincial government. Each province has its own registrar which records these, and provides them to the public. Just as in the US, each state does the same. You are correct that originals are kept on file, and certified copies are provided upon request.

Yeah, you're right Sam, I remember needing to put a guarantor, but it was just online so I think I just put my aunt or my sister or something and gave her phone number and address... I'm almost positive they never called them or that they had to sign anything. It was a minor detail.

And yep, my long form is just a certified copy with a seal, they don't give you the original.

I don't know about applying in person or by mail (though I would assume it'd be the same), but you certainly do need one when applying for a certified copy of a birth certificate online.

Birth Certificates: Do I have a valid guarantor?

If you are applying for a birth certificate for an individual nine years of age or older, guarantor information is required.

A guarantor is someone who has known you (the applicant) personally for at least 2 years during your life, is a Canadian citizen, and is currently serving in or a practicing member in good standing of one of the professions listed below.

And unfortunately, they haven't altered the guarantor requirements, like they have for the passport process (where anyone who has known you for at least two years and has an active passport qualifies).

Figured I wouldn't fudge it unless my doctor wanted some astronomical amount in order to give me the requested information.
