We just received Rachid's Social Security Card and it is printed on the card that this is valid for work only... So my question is .... can we use it for the marriage cert. or for him to open a bank account...???

The SSN card having the legend, “VALID FOR WORK ONLY WITH DHS AUTHORIZATION,” only means that the number holder cannot use the SSN card as proof of work authorization. It does not otherwise affect the validity of the card or number.

06/15/09 - Citizenship interview

07/15/09 - Citizenship ceremony. Alhamdulilah, the US now has another american muslim!

10/14/2009 - Biometrics completed

01/01/2010 - finally an update - awaiting interview letter

02/08/2010 - interview (Garden City, NY) -- PASSED

03/03/2010 - Oath Ceremony in Brooklyn

03/13/2010 - U.S. Passport in hand

Congratulations to Rachid on his card. You can have that statement removed later on. We keep forgetting but maybe we will go today to get his new one.

Sarah we applied for Abdou's social security card 3 days after he arrived and he received it about 3 weeks later. You go to the Social Security Administration office near your home.

8/13/05 AOS and EAD paperwork mailed

8/25/05 NOAs in the mail!!! Yea!

11/25/05 - BIOMETRIC DATE

01/26/06 - AOS SUCCESSFUL INTERVIEW AND HE GETS HIS FIRST JOB AT FIRST JOB INTERVIEW

02/13/06 - GREEN CARD ARRIVED

4/22/06 - Driver's License!!

11/05/2007 Filed to Lift conditions[/color]

11/07/07 - NOA1 received

12/21/07 - Biometrics completed

04/08/08 - 10 YEAR CARD APPROVED

04/14/08 - CARD IN HAND !!!!!

11/3/08 - Filed for Citizenship

11/29/08 - Biometric Appointment

02/03/09 - Citizenship Interview, HE PASSED

You go to the Social Security Administration office near your home.

Unless you live in the Brooklyn, NY or Las Vegas, NV area you can apply at ANY SSA office. Now it makes sense to apply at an office that you will have no trouble getting back to in case you have to follow up on your application, but it doesn't have to be the closest to you home.
