Flying in VN and getting there

I am looking for some feedback from others that have been there done that. I usually use Jetstar when I need to get from one major city to another within VN. They often have sales and the fares can be very low... a RT trip to Sing from HCMC was 36 usd before taxes in April.. I am familiar with Jetstar as well as Vietnam airlines but does anyone know of other options or the best place to get flights to and from VN or within when I am there?

I've only used Vietnam Airlines, but I've not flown round trip from VN to any other country. I've only flown round trip from US to Vietnam, and then domestic only within Vietnam between HCM and Phu Bai/Hue. I've been reasonably happy with the service on Vietnam Airlines, though they always try to ding me on overweight charges.

Anyone who has taken Vietnam Airlines domestic from Tan Son Nhat airport is probably familiar with "window 51". :P

BTW, I don't usually book my return flight from Hue to HCM through my agent in the US. My fiancee's son-in-law gets much better rates through an agent in Hue than I could get myself, either in the US or in VN.

Phuong and I might be traveling round trip between Singapore and HCM, with connecting flights between HCM and Hue, when I go back in August, but she's thinking about a tour package that includes airfare.

In April Jetstar had a special rate from Hoi An to HCMC 18 usd pp ... I like Vienam Airlines as I have several former students in upper management there.. They are more flexible when it comes to changes as well.. They just cost a great deal more at times... I have not been dinged by jetstar over 20kg. I have been slightly over a couple of times but that was flying from Hanoi to HCMC. I catch more ####### from Delta agents when it comes to that... I saw one ticket agent make a guy unpack or redistribute his load over .2 lbs.. their scales are off.. I dont give a ####### that they swear they are calibrated so often..

I have only used Vietnam Airlines within VN. They have a lot of flight times to choose from and it is convenient. With the rates you quote, Scott, I am not sure you are going to find a lower price for in-country travel in VN.

To/From VN I almost always fly China Air from SFO thru TPE to SGN. I can never find rates that are more competitive than booking directly online with them.
