Good morning all!

So, I don't expect anyone to understand this situation I am in, it's quite silly and shouldn't be a "situation" at all...BUT I follow a particular band around.

No I am not a 'groupie' and I can't explain why I do what I do... but when I got into them they had already broken up and I have always been extremely passionate about them. I am even a mod on their official board, I collect their music, I have rare items other fans would pay me big bucks for.

I consider myself to be their biggest fan. That being said... they are playing at a festival literally down the road from my mom's house in August. I was going to leave on Monday August 31st, but was thinking I could leave on Friday and make it up for this festival.

BUT MY HUSBAND STANDS IN MY WAY!

We have a wedding that weekend... his family. He said that we HAVE to go. I don't see why, I am not particularly close to this family and whenever we do attend weddings with them no one talks to us and I don't think they'd notice if I am not there. He says my values are skewed... you see in MY family, we don't always go to eachothers weddings, we wear our comfy clothes to eachothers funerals... thats how we roll.

But I understand, I live with my husband now, I have attended a few weddings, I dress up and do what his family does. I have mildly conformed. :P

BUT this band means the world to me. More than one of his cousin's weddings.

I mean if it were my BIL getting married, I'd understand. But he doesn't even like this cousin and him and his mom always bash them.. I just don't get it.

Ahh I am torn! TORN I SAY!

By the way the band is the Pixies... and only a few people would comprehend the absolute love I have for them. :P

I have only seen them 8 times and I need to make it to the double digits in order to die a happy woman and I am afraid that Kim Deal and Frank Black will fight again and it will all go to hell like it did in the early 90s!

And yes they're going to tour after this festival, yes I could just wait for that... but I can't and don't you dare try to talk sense into me! :P

It's an unhealthy obsession. He knew about it when he married me. :P

I seriously hate you right now :P Well, more like jealous. One of the most memorable concerts of my youth was seeing The Pixies play with Bad Religion and The Melvins. I've only managed to see them once, but have seen Frank Black's group perform 3 other times. I'd say go for it. As long as your husband can just remain silent about it and then at the last second say that you had some sort of family emergency, there should be no family drama on his end. But just remember, he gets a free "Get Out Of ____________" card.

You're jealous!???

YOU SAW THEM BACK IN THE DAY!!! *bows down*

Omg they are STILL amazing performers. But I am sure it was nothing like it was back then... pure loud naked guitar sounds... i love it. I crave it!

I'm lucky that my parents were really into music. So much so that they took me to see Lynnard Skynnard and The Who when I was still in diapers

I still laugh at the thought of going to see Rage Against The Machine at their 2nd ever gig at a club in Hollywood...... with my mom.

See my mom was sorta the same way. She plays the drums, so she was always really into music too. Took me to see Pink Floyd, took me to see the dead a few times. She took me to a lot of shows. She was soo dissapointed when I went through my NKOTB phase, she thought she raised a better daughter.

Oh I know the feeling about parents being disappointed in their childrens musical tastes. They were so distraught when I discovered hip hop in 5th grade. So much so that they let me go on tour with the Greatful Dead for 2 months over summer when I was in high school with some friends

^^The sucks Krikit. I know someone who had it a few weeks ago and are now okay.

So as it turns out, I got a letter saying that I was not eligible for GST cheques anymore since I made too much money. I'm so glad I don't have to figure out how to give them their money back and deal with all that!! Yeah!! Funny how something like that just made my week!!

I've just been told that my cousin has been diagnosed with the swine flu.

I'm very sorry to hear that but there seems to be more and more information that as long as the person has a relatively normal immune system that this will just be felt like a "standard" crappy flu.

I was really surprised to see how many signs were all over the immigration office when my wife and I got called into secondary last week regarding this.

Hopefully your cousin is into video games cause there will be plenty of time to have a little fun while they're laying around the house blowing their nose every 5 seconds :)

My wife has been back since June 5, 2007. Now we're just livin' man, L I V I N :)

Haha. Yeah, I'm not too worried about her. She's not in a high risk category. I did have a relative die about 10 years ago from complications of the flu. He was in his forties, but he wasn't altogether healthy to begin with. But a bad one sure can drain you. I remember being so sick, once, that I actually wanted to die.

ADVICE NEEDED

Some of you will remember a few months back, we wanted to get a doggie so bad but we were told by our landlord not allowed due to a stupid rule that only 1 dog is allowed per dulpex and the neighbor downstairs has a dog.

Anyway, a friend at my husband's work found this 1 year old poodle (important because I cannot have a dog that sheds) they took him to the humane society, tried to find it's owner. It has no microchip, no missing dogs were reported that matches this description. The HS wouldn't take the dog in, as they are overwhelmed with dogs and unforunately putting some to sleep.

She wants us to take the little guy as he is so cute and sweet and needs a loving home. I want to SO bad but I'm scared we'll get caught, it's in our lease no dogs I don't want to be evicted over a dog. My husband says if she finds out we just say we're dogsitting but you can only do that for so long! Our lease isn't up until Nov. 1.

I am not a rebel and don't want to stray against the rules LOL.

What would YOU do?!

Swine flu is definitely going around my workplace, I am just waiting to get the full effects, esp after how I was feeling last weekend. I keep hearing its better to have it now, than get the swine flu in the fall as it will be worse.

My fiance's brother has been quarantined in military basic training and did not graduate because he is so sick, hooked up to IV's and all. Before he left for basic he was sick and unfortunately only got worse as some of his comrades also got quarantined due to the H1N1. I wondering if its possible he had the H1N1 before he left 6 weeks ago, I am suprised he made it through this far if he did. Scary stuff.

 If worse came to worse his Granny said she'd take the pup until we move in Nov (if we got caught I mean)

The thing that ticks me right off is NO ONE at the complex follows the rules. It also states no dogs over 30 lbs. There are MANY dogs here that are pitbulls, german shepards, that weigh over 30 lbs. Many people have dogs in both duplexes. If no one else follows the rules why should I

If I was already planning on having a dog eventually I'd definitely save the lil guy, except for the problem that I'm a dude and it's a poodle haha :)

I say go for it, only have a few months to go and how many times can you get caught really? Only have to use the dog-sitting excuse the one time you get caught, otherwise just go Mission: Impossible style and hide the lil guy :)

Unless he barks and whines while you are gone.. that'd be a problem :(

But Grannie is a great back up plan..

I would be like: "Dog? What dog!? THAT IS MY SON! HE WAS BORN WITH A SERIOUS BIRTH DEFECT! YOU TAKE THAT BACK YOU MEAN LANDLORD! YOU TAKE THAT BACK RIGHT NOW OR I'LL SUE YOUR KNICKERS OFF!"

While you do this shake your fist in the air.

I would get the dog!! And just say you are dog sitting and perhaps have your hubby's granny keep him some of the time if you have to.

Sounds like the perfect little dog for you!

Then start looking for a new place that is dog friendly :)

The building we want to live in is no dogs allowed, but our friends live in the building and said they see dogs all the time. We don't plan on getting a dog, but we might have to dog sit for, so it's a legitimate excuse, LOL.
