Well, I'm finally moved to my temporary new lodgings, (a.k.a. the parents' house), and in pretty good spirits, all things considered. I couldn't get my DSL / digital phone to work after I'd futzed with it, but after a 40-minute call to my ISP, they managed to get it up and running...which is great. I'm glad I didn't have to change my phone number, even though I'm in a completely different area of Greater Vancouver now. I'm also glad my internet is up and running in my own room...I just don't feel comfortable sitting on another person's computer, even if that other person is a parent.

Moving all of my belongings from the car, up a flight of stairs and into the spare room here was a trial, to say the least! I was actually wheezing at one point. :dead: I said to my father, "Don't ever let me buy another book..." Damn those old tomes are heavy!

They said they were doing it as a going away gift, but it took my mom calling it "bailing me out" for my dad to call it a going away gift.

They're strange parents.

They're just very loving and caring parents, who want to see their child get started in their new life on the best footing possible. Nothing wrong with that.

Yeah, they're good parents, they really are.

They just seem to try to do things in weird ways. I mean, first it's bailing me out now it's a gift. Make up your minds please and thank you

I still do feel the need to pay them back though.

 I remember saying the same thing. At the very last minute when we were packing up the car I got annoyed with the books and ended up leaving a ton of them at my parents house. I couldn't be bothered. But of course I'm missing them now...

Hopefully living at the parents house works out for you! At least you should be able to save some good money and have a little less stress in your life while preparing for the big move.

I have a completely random question for anyone who can offer some good advice. Where are some good places to buy furniture? I want some decent stuff without spending a fortune. Now that we are planning on moving out in the next couple months I need to start thinking about collecting some furniture. All I have is a bed, a computer desk, a storage unit shelf thing and a computer/computer desk.

Well, an early "Happy Thanksgiving" everyone - we're visiting family this week and I won't be online, so hope you all have a great week.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

What a day today will be.

I have about a million errands to run in town, and I have to have a Pulmonary Function Test at the hospital this afternoon....funnily enough, my mom is having hers done today too in Toronto

She said, "Let's compare afterwards" (for those who don't know, she's on a lung transplant list, and will blow me out of the water with her really bad results), but she laughed, which is good because I know this is tough for her.

Hope everyone else has a relatively good Monday :)

Good morning everyone. I'm going to hit the library today to pick up a book or two on CD for our drive to NC. :(

Ikea's the first place that comes to mind.

Good morning!!

We are back from Toronto, our weekend was great. It was nice to see our friends.

Canadian beers are delicious, i miss them ;) and thank you toronto for your awesome shopping mall because we did quite a big of shopping and it was great.

Passing the border back to the US with the green card was a breeze. FIRST TIME no weirdo questions, no papers to fill out, no screening, no checking. Took maybe 1 min. Awesome.

Forgot to buy canadian beers are the duty free. The only ones we can find here are mooseheads.

Didn't get to have poutine but tons of sushis !!!!!!! Yay toronto with tons of sushi places

Ikea has some really nice stuff. Also consider a used furniture store. They can have some really nice stuff for inexpensive. Varba bought my dresser (well I picked it out) at a used store for 100$, at a regular store it would have been closer to $300. Yes it's used, but it's in almost perfect condition.

I'll certainly never knock Ikea -- they're fairly cheap and their designs are nice. Most of my apartment's furniture was Ikea stuff.

Just bear in mind that most of it isn't the best quality. They use a lot of particle board for their cheaper stuff. But it's great if you're just starting out together and only plan on having that furniture for five years or so.
