Good (late) morning everyone. Krikit... can I join you on your walk to walk off troubles??? I think I'm just about at that point, too.

Hugs to you, July. (F) Troubles are a real trouble. lol

Phil has stumbled across and interesting job lead in Houston. We'll be moving if he gets a good offer. Frankly, I'm a little intimidated. From what I've read, Texas is pretty anti-immigrant. I'm not pleased about the idea of having a driver's license with "temporary visitor" written across it and I'm wondering what other obstacles being an immigrant in Houston might cause.

~ Catherine

I've heard Houston is a great place! Crossing fingers for your husband, Bermy. :)

I am still puzzled by what type of animal it was - bigger than a cat from all appearances - so I am wondering if we have a bobcat or a fox in the area.

Aww. That's so sad. :( I'm wondering if it was a raccoon? I used to live in a very old part of town where the trees were hundreds of years old.... so there were a lot of squirrels nests and things. At night I would hear a disturbance, and then the squirrels screaming. I figured it had to be the raccoons, because they can be pretty vicious. Though it could have been foxes, I guess.

aww so sweet

Awwww. That made me teary-eyed. :luv:

Nice to see you back, E!

We had a great day yesterday! Went and got a mani/pedi, then over to Bloomingdales where they had a promotion on for men and my husband got a free facial. lol. Then we stopped by Sushi Katana for an early dinner. Yum. On our way back we stopped by Sam's Club to pick up a couple of items. We were just about to head back home when my husband said "Let's go to the movies!" So we went to see Julie and Julia. But only after my husband went with every intent to see the new Tyler Perry movie. When he said so I was like "No! Not another Tyler Perry movie. I have been to every TP movie in the last 5 years and I don't like them!" Julie and Julia was entertaining. Meryl Streep did a great job of portraying her. My husband fell asleep right at the end of the movie! But I really don't blame him because it sort of died at that point.

The sad thing is, there are so many businesses closing down, everywhere you go. :( Carla and Trailmix..... remember the area we met in? That's where the movie theatre is. We went to go for a chai tea at the coffee place after the movie.... like we usually do..... and it's gone! So we walked the main drag to see what else was gone. A couple of other places were closed, but there's a new Mexican restaurant getting ready to open up so that's a good thing. The owner of the nail shop told us that their business has shown a marked decline also. And then she told us that one of their clients was shot and killed the night before in Orlando! :o She said he was really really nice, and always happy. And he was only 41. With 3 children. :(

On a brighter note, there's a lovely sale at Marie-France so I'll be going back for some cruisewear. lol

How exciting, Carla! I wish I was going to Canada too!

So my husband is insistent upon replacing my car. I love my car! But he takes it to work everyday so I never get to drive it. So stop driving my car all the time, husband! :bonk: If he doesn' like it, why doesn't he take the new car? I think it's because he hates putting miles on that one. icon2.gif

Anyway, I digress. So he/we have been doing the car search and all that fun (not). There's this one guy with a car we like who we've been trying to go and see it, but he keeps putting us off! I told my husband last night that I think he must be part of a sting operation and that's why he doesn't appear to really want to sell it. It's just too weird. So..... if we buy from a dealership and they don't give me a good price for it, I was thinking I would just drive it back to Canada and either give it to one of my kids (if they want it. lol) or just park it in my parents' driveway so it's there when I go back to visit. Really, I think I just want an excuse to drive back to Canada. LOL

Well today was a bit of a sad day for me too. Last weekend one of the feral cats who comes around to eat brought two well-grown kittens to the house. We certainly didn't need anymore kittens - especially ones that appear to be 3 or 4 months old. The little black and white one actually climbed up inside the car engines several times (we discovered him in time) and that has been a real worry. The other kitten looks like it had a Siamese father - siamese colouring and points but with white paws and chest and a white strip on the nose.

It has been raining a lot here and the kittens have been either on the front porch or under a piece of plexiglass next to the house on the back patio. Well, last night I heard some scuffling and bumping next to the back porch followed by loud meowing. I got up, turned on the light and couldn't see anything so went outside. Then I heard meowing in the yard so I walked to the side yard - and found the little Siamese kitten lying on the ground. He died just as I got there :( . Some sort of animal had grabbed him while he lay sleeping under the plexi glass and dragged him into the side yard. I must of interrupted it and before it ran off, it killed the kitten by a bite in the chest between the front leg and the heart. There were no other marks on the kitten - just that deep wide bite. I picked the kitten up and brought him into the house as I wasn't sure yet it was dead - which is where I discovered the injury. I wrapped the body in some tissues and put him in a bag and put him in the garage until morning.

In the morning the mother cat didn't show up as usual. I looked around to see if I could find any other evidence - including the black and white kitten who I hadn't seen either. The mother came out of the woods - very nervous and skittish. She followed me to the porch where she ate while I got the kitten from the garage and put it down beside her on the porch. She sniffed the kitten, started to lick its face then tried to pick it up by the scruff of the neck to carry away but it was too big for her to handle. I carried the kitten to the top of the hill by the woods where she and the kittens often came from and put the kitten there. She again tried to carry the body away. When I checked a little while later neither she nor the kitten were still there.

So, I have been sad all day. This is the same cat who had 3 kittens also killed by some wild animal last Spring. I don't know if the other kitten is alive or not. Regardless - out of the 11 feral kittens that have been born here this year, only one has positively survived - that is the one Bermycat adopted - and possibly the black and white one as well. The rest have all died or been killed by animals over the summer.

I am still puzzled by what type of animal it was - bigger than a cat from all appearances - so I am wondering if we have a bobcat or a fox in the area. I think the kitten that Bermycat has was probably protected by having 2 adult cats- the mother and the stray who is still here - always around. This little kitten who died last night seems to have been alone at the time. I am now even more grateful that Bermycat gave little Kazzak a home - she surely has saved his life.

You story made me grab Kazzak and hug him. Of course he looked at me as if to say, "I was busy Mom. That toy isn't going to hide itself."

I'm so sorry you had such a bad day. I'd have been crying myself.

Apparently he loves your car too! That's a good idea about having a car there when you visit!

I hope you have a wonderful visit Carla, not sure what Toronto is like right now but it's a tad nippy here in the mornings now, which is kind of nice really. Might have to change in to something a little warmer to wear around the house soon, i'm still wearing my Florida stuff, shorts and a tshirt - however this morning I put on slip on slippers instead of the flip flop type ones I have been wearing

WOOHOO!!

Haven't decided what we're doing for Christmas. Either John will go to Texas to be with his family while I stay home with the kitties...or I go home to be with my parents, and John stays home with the kitties

His mom has brain cancer, and my mom is on the list for a lung transplant...so we may have to flip a coin!

Of course whatever we do, we will go and visit family close to Christmas anyway we're not that evil to our family
