Happy Birthday!! Sorry to hear it's going rough but try to take solace in knowing you're one year closer to retirement :)

Thanks guys! Yeah he's at work... he had no choice. He works for his parents, which is not as cool as you may think. He can't just take days off like normal people do, all hell breaks loose, he does A LOT for them. Its just frustrating because I often come down to work to help him out, for free, just doing odd jobs since, "my name is on the door now." But his parents took a long weekend last week and were gone until yesterday... I went to work with him Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday and worked 12 hour days for absolutely nothing. I answered the phones, helped customers, even did some labor in the back just to help him out. I don't have an EAD so I don't take any money, and I'm not an official employee or anything... but given all the work I've been doing and expecting absolutely nothing in return, they don't even give my husband the day off so I don't have to be alone on my birthday? Apparently its to much to ask. They're so frustrating sometimes... wow.

That sucks so bad! I know you can't "officially" be paid for your hard work, but even a gift card or something in return to thank you, you know? Will you guys do something tonight, like dinner out maybe? :)

Happy Birthday Huggle!!

Hmm, seems to me that if you are working there and as you are married and it is a family business, you would think they would up his wages accordingly when you do work.

Yeah, I completely agree. This was mentioned and they said it was a good idea and it never happened. They know I'm a little paranoid about breaking the terms of my visa so I think they're taking advantage of that. I've even had days where they promised to compensate me for my work and they never have... So I've accepted it now. I don't do it to help them, I do it to help my husband who works way to hard for one man.

I get dinner tonight, but he won't be home until after 6 :(

Boo, it sounds like they are taking advantage a bit. Well, when you DO get your EAD, do you plan on working in that business or getting another job?

When I get my EAD I'm going to try really hard to find employment elsewhere! I really really don't want to work for them. Is that mean to say? I hope not... Its just definitely not my ideal line of work...

I dunno, today I'm sad because I'm alone and I miss my family. But if I was back home in Canada today I'd be missing Bill and depressed he wasn't with me. So, I really can't win can I? This is a hard life we've all chosen...

Not bad to say at all, I sure wouldn't want to work with my in-laws! I love them and all, but seeing them for Sunday dinner is enough for me :)

I totally hear you, especially on days like this it makes that homesick pang even worse. Unfortunately we can't win, if we're back home we miss our spouse and if we're here, we miss our family :( Just know that many of us know how you're feeling (F)

We do!! We do!! And we luv it too!! it is a million and one times more entertaining then American Idol :P

the hubby and I have watched every season so far...

I hate the new host, Nick Cannon though, he is so fake and he thinks he is funny when he is not.. and those hideous velvet suits he wears.. ugh

I want Jerry Springer back.. he seemed to fit right in with the show and the contestants...

Oh yay! An AGT buddy!

Nick Cannon has had some cute moments but he's definitely out of his depth here. As odd as the concept seems, I agree that Jerry Springer did an awesome job. But I hear he's coming back to do the finals. Yay!

Jerry Springer seemed to connect more with the contestants and seemed to genuinely care about them...

I don't know if you watched the first season of AGT when Regis Philbin was the host... that was bad.. he acted like the contestants had the plague or something..

I was just reading about Jerry Springer coming back and this is what I found ...

It has been confirmed that popular host Jerry Springer will make his comeback to America’s Got Talent, when he returns to host a live version of the TV talent contest.

http://www.inentertainment.co.uk/20090902/...-back-and-live/

so I don't think he is coming back to do the TV show...

Flames, how is the new job?

First week was all just general orientation! Stressed over and over about patient satisfaction, lol Which is a high priority, since it is a "for profit" hospital (not all in the USA are) My 2 shifts earlier this week were on my actual floor, which is a cardiac floor. I just followed my preceptor around the first day, then the tech, secretary, the 2nd day. Tomorrow I should have 1 or 2 or my very own patients, which is cool. Still lots to learn. The days go by soooo fast as one has no time to relax, its go, go go!! The patients we have are 1 step down from the critical care unit, so they are not super ill, but some are close to that line, so still require a lot of care. Normal patient load is 4 or 5 patients. Lot of ones time is taken up with documenting!! If its not documented, it didn't happen!! and when it comes to charging the people for the services that they received, and you did NOT document it, guess what, they don't get charged, lol so the hospital doesn't like that, lol

Its enjoyable, majority of the patients are very nice, but there are always a few that seem to cause one a bit more trouble, lol I'm doing a months of days, then I switch over to Nights!!! Usually much quieter at night, BUT that is def not always the case! people tend to get "crazy"" or code more often at night. Fun Stuff, lol

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1
