hiring an attorney?

I am just starting the K-1 visa process. I wanted to hire an attorney to make sure everything was done right and I don't screw anything up. Has anyone out there used easyfiancevisa.com? They seem to be cheaper than anyone else, but also seem to be fairly new to the game. They have been very prompt and through in the conversations I've had with them. I know they're a main advertiser on this site....anybody have personal experience with them?

if your case is really starightforward then you don't really need any service to help you.all you have to do is study on the process and read the guides.

You might want to save the money and do it yourself. To file the I129F petition it really is easy. The hard part is putting the information together and getting the information, which you have to do even if you have easyfinancevisa.com do it.

Here is my thought for having easyfinancevisa.com do it. If there are not complaints from a forum at this site and they have been advertising at this site, they are probably a good bet if you want to have someone process everything for you.

Good luck on your journey

He might be talking about the google ads. They're context sensitive, so VJ would have no control over what get's advertised. The problem is that it does give the impression that VJ is endorsing whoever is being advertised, at least to people who don't know how google "AdWords" works.

Hiring an attorney will not make sure everything is right. OMG no.

You can do this yourself.

When my husband applied for me with the k1 visa, he hired an attorney thinking it would be easier. She charged him about $1,000 for the process and it wasn't worth it. I found out about this site and I talked to my husband about all the process and the paperwork. She didn't help us at all. She downloaded the same forms you can do it here; there are sample forms which you can easily follow.

Sometimes my husband asked me what the next step was because everytime he wanted to talk to the attorney, he just left messages.

When I started the Adjustment of Status process we did it ourselves, it saved us another $1,000 approx. We followed the guidelines and we didn't received any RFEs so far. I have my EAD and my AP, so now i am just waiting for my Green Card.

Unless your case is extremelly difficult, I recommend you to do it by yourself....GOOD LUCK!!! ;)

This cannot be said with 100% certainty! An EXCELLENT attorney can be worth his weight in gold.
You can do this yourself.
We don't know this, and we can't know this in accordance with the information that the OP has provided. Gary, approximately how many times have you been asked/notified not to provide blithe, sweeping advice that can have SERIOUS negative implications for those who read and swallow it as though it is gospel truth? How can ANYONE responsibly advocate this without knowing the particulars of the OP's situation and his capabilities of reading accurately, interpreting literally, and responding appropriately?

The vast vast majority of us here on VJ have filed WITHOUT an attorney! YOU DO NOT NEED AN ATTORNEY. That is not to say that you can't get one or that there might be a some weird strange thing in your case that you haven't told us about that would mean you should get an attorney (like your fiancee overstayed a visa in the US or something), but otherwise, don't waste your money.

You found us. Ask as many questions as you like, but read the guides and do searches because most likely, that question has been asked before!

I strongly agree with you.

That's true we can't know exactly. Which is why in my post above I said "unless" you have some weird thing, ect. But what she was agreeing with was Gary saying that having an attorney doesn't make sure everything is alright. That is most certainly true! There are LOTS of cases on here where attorneys have actually fvcked up cases and made them take even longer!!! So, yes, getting an attorney is not a guaranteed way to have a good case.

Thanks for all your responses. I think our case should be about as simple as they come...both able and willing to marry. no divorces or kids. the one thing I thought of is the fact she was denied a tourist visa recently to come to the states to visit. the reason for denial was not enough ties, which seems to be pretty common, so hopefully that won't cause any delays.

No, the denial of a tourist visa for not having sufficient ties shouldn't cause any problems with the K-1. Just make sure she does admit to that denial on the application. The denial shouldn't be a problem, but not telling the truth about the denial would be.

Flat fee, guarantee that if your application is rejected but your fee kept due to errors made by the firm, will pay those fees, assurance that all of your evidence is correct and complete, as well as all the forms, a very powerful and respected firm where the USCIS won't give them or you any #######, and most important, the best and fastest way to bring your spouse here were my reasons for hiring an attorney from a very respected law firm.

NOA in ten days, EAD in three months, conditional green card in 5 1/2 months when the USCIS was running slower than hell, and recommendation of a good USCIS approved doctor that also saved us a bundle.

The wrong attorney can make life completely miserable, net is loaded with those.

Disclaimer: I can't speak for anyone else, just for myself. Also, I filed for AOS, not K1, so my experience may or may not be relevant to this discussion.

I decided to save the $2000 or so in attorney's fees and do the application myself. Although I am a lawyer too, my field is completely unrelated to immigration law, so I was just as clueless as anyone else.

The forms themselves (I-130, I-485, I-765, I-131) weren’t hard to fill out. The cumbersome and time-consuming part was gathering all the required supporting documentation – e.g., evidence of bona fide marriage, tax returns, pay stubs, etc. And even if we had hired a lawyer, we still would have had to gather all that paperwork and then give to the lawyer to put in a neat stack and make photocopies - hardly worth the 2K.

I think the process is at least in theory designed to be accessible to lay persons. Any reasonably literate person who is careful and has attention to detail should be able to figure the stuff out. I myself did a whole bunch of online research – read the guides and forum postings, made checklists, etc.

It might have been much easier and quicker to just hire an attorney, but we’ve saved a chunk of cash (and now me and my cupcake can use the money to go on a surfing vacation! B)

(Though who knows, maybe I'll regret my decision down the road if it turns out I botched up the application! :)
