Hello,

We have 2 children from our marriage, I have a stepdaughter. Am I required to list her as one of the children 'I have had' and send her birth certificate as well? (I am not her biological father.)

One of my 2 sons was born before we got married, and on his birth certificate the father's information area is blank. But the birth certificate( from before we got married, his first birth certificate). Is it OK if I send this birth certificate or do I have to get a new one?

On past employment part, I do not remember exact dates of starting and ending employments. Can I just put the month and year if I can not remember the exact days?

Thank you very much.

I am now a US citizen.

It's in the N-400 instructions to list all kids, natural, step, adopted, etc., from both parents, the applicant and the USC or LPR resident spouse.

To ease confusion, I typed in my married daughters maiden name in parenthesis before their married last name. With my wife's kids using her ex's last name, her maiden name is typed after their last name, her IO appreciated that. They had eight blanks, we totaled eight kids, so didn't have to use a separate piece of paper.

As only one of the kids is living with us, I typed in her name first as her address is the same as ours, didn't make any difference, she just turned 18 so couldn't tailgate my wife with a free certificate, she has to wait the extra two years with the extra 600+ bucks to get her USC.

No idea on the answer to the kids question, unless maybe you list your stepdaughter and put (stepdaughter) after her name on the form?

On the employment side, I think a lot of people put in month and year. I would say USCIS expect that as most people won't remember or have records of exact dates of their employment going back years. They may have issues however if you don't remember the exact names of your kids :D

Thank you NickD and J&D for your replies. So I associate Venezuela and Ireland to words 'helpful', 'kind' :) Thank you.

I am just going to write the month and year for employment dates then, because I do not remember exact days and I do not want to put a wrong day there.

As for the birth certificate of my older son, I hope that does not cause confusion on the part of processors. The certificate's parts related to the father is blank since we were not married when my wife got that certificate. I do not want to pay 10+ dollars and waste time waiting for a new certificate. So I guess I will send the existing one.

As J&D says, I will put 'step-daughter) next to the name.

Thank you very much. :)

I am now a US citizen.

If you did an I-485, I-130, and a G-325a, good idea what you put on the N-400 matches this as well as the I-751. Had all these forms on my computer, so was a copy and paste job for a lot of it with some updating.

Same old stuff, I commented to myself, just over and over again.
