When shipping with UPS can you just start shipping things immediately or is it the same issue when you use movers that you need to cross the border before your things do?

I think it depends on the amount of stuff you are shipping, a lot of stuff may raise some questions but a couple of items prolly won't. It's just my opinion though. Prolly also depends on what you are shipping, best guess is prolly to call them and ask.

I think you crossing the border first is what allows your stuff to come in duty free. I bet if you shipped stuff earlier, whoever picked the items up would have to pay customs.

I have mailed about 6 boxes over the course of the last year with Canada Post. Food stuff, candles, summer clothes for last summer, coffee (daughter works at Starbucks - free coffee each week), etc and not had any trouble. Having said that, you are not supposed to send anything on ahead until you get your actual visa.

I looked into UPS and realized that paying for an extra bag on my flight would be cheaper, but I believe I would've had to ship it after me. They needed a form.
