Ok I originally found my Fiance on Heart of Asia, (very thankful to them) but I only paid for 1 month so we could e-mail eachother. Do i need to submit this on my 129f? Why do they care where you found your significant other any ways?

How you met your partner IS going to come up. Do not be tempted to be untruthful on the forms, you'll come unstuck when it comes to the interview. If you have a bona fide relationship with your partner, and enough proof to back it up, then you have nothing to worry about.

The government are trying to protect citizens from being scammed by "green card diggers" and beneficiaries from being "shopped for" in an unscrupulous manner. A K1 visa is a privilege and not a right so unfortunately the government can ask anything they feel is necessary to prove the legitimacy of your relationship.

The government does not care how people in legitimate relationships meet. The law was implemented as some of these agencies were involved either in human trafficking for prostitution or scams of the potential petitioners. It is a monitoring systme to protect you and your fiancee.

DO NOT be dishonest in any way during this process.

Hey Bry, Yes they do want to know how you met and they will ask. That said, you have nothing to worry about as long as your honest as others have already stated. Trust me, you are gonna have a lot more questions about things that may not seem relevant to you but this is just the way the process works and it works this way for a reason. Relax, answer the questions, double and triple check everything and prepare to wait..Good luck on your journey. Mike

4) INTERNATIONAL MARRIAGE BROKER.—

(i) a traditional matchmaking organization of a

cultural or religious nature that operates on a nonprofit

basis and otherwise operates in compliance with the

laws of the countries in which it operates, including

the laws of the United States; or

(ii) an entity that provides dating services if its

principal business is not to provide international dating

services between United States citizens or United

States residents and foreign nationals and it charges

comparable rates and offers comparable services to

all individuals it serves regardless of the individual’s

gender or country of citizenship.

(6) PERSONAL CONTACT INFORMATION.—

(A) IN GENERAL.—The term ‘‘personal contact information’’

means information, or a forum to obtain such information,

that would permit individuals to contact each other,

including—

(i) the name or residential, postal, electronic mail,

or instant message address of an individual;

(ii) the telephone, pager, cellphone, or fax number,

or voice message mailbox of an individual; or

(iii) the provision of an opportunity for an in-person

meeting.

(B ) EXCEPTION.—Such term does not include a photograph

or general information about the background or

interests of a person.

So, my understanding, as long as the site wasn't made just to get USC's hooked up with Foreign Brides/Grooms, it does not all under IMBRA.

An example of this type of site that would fall under IMBRA would be www.loveme.com

IMBRA does not apply to meeting on a dating web site.

I did not mention at all on my petition how we initially we met - Only the details of meeting in person. I am sure at the interview they will ask how we initially met.

It can, only if it only caters to USC/Foreign brides/grooms.

If it is open to the whole world, as listed above in the act, then no issues.

No need to be ashamed! I would wager a very large percentage of VJ members meet the same way. And I am sure a very large number of applicants at the consulate met the same way. In fact, many consulates seem to prefer this to meetings arranged by family or friends in the USA which they always suspect as fraudulent. I think it is fairly well accepted in this age of internet. Cupid.com makes no apologies.

Also there is no problem in giving this information even if the agency turns out not to be covered by IMBRA, better to err on the side of caution. Again there is no problem with legitimate matchmaking agencies and legitimate relationships developed this way.
