hi just curious about how much money you spend on your wedding?

My fiancee have had some talks on this. She tells me any price I quote here for a wedding, that we can do it for less. She tells me that the money is better spent on other things. She is very practical, so I will spend as little as possible. My guess will be $1500.00 to $2000.00. What I am figuring on doing is to have a very simple wedding, which will probably be in the winter then have an open house/reception more toward spring.

I think in total including dress, accessories etc, rings it will come to around 10K. Our families are splitting most of the bill. I am in the midst of planning right now, and we are planning for a wedding with max 80 guests, with lucky 50-60 actually show as its an OOT wedding for all involved, but we have a small family thank goodness. When we first started talking about getting married it would just be a JOP wedding, well neither families wanted that so we are doing the bells and whistles in October. My fiance and I are ready to throw our hands up in the air and say "whos wedding is it", putting your foot down doesn't leave everybody happy, but oh well. My advice, put your foot down and demand what you want or else you will regret it, it sets the precedence for your relationship with the inlaws/parents in the marriage.

My boquet- $20

Marriage LIcense- $100

Minister- $150

My dress- $100

His suit- $350

Dinner reception for 12- $500

TOTAL- $1,220

I didnt want a big wedding. I liked the spur of the moment thingy. Big wedding will give me stress, which was the last thing I needed on my wedding day.

True. If there's one thing that we can't forget on our wedding day was that my husband and I were both exhausted. Though it wasn't a big a wedding only families but since it was a sort of traditional wedding and we want to do it ourselves (we have no idea how stressful it is to have a wedding like that)

we just went straight to bed and fell asleep on our wedding night.

It's not about how much you are going to spend, but how are you going to make your wedding a memorable one! no stress!!

my dress is a mini white dress , 100 bucks, plus the lil party we re having and our gateaway weekend

so i would say 1000 max....i don t want expensive stuff , i just want to marry my angel :)

Omigod, girl I paid $100 for my dress, too! Our ceremony will be just $85, plus an extra $30 for my folks, on a gondola in Newport Beach. Then a deli-style lunch for my family, then to Disneyland and home to watch all our Family Guy and Battlestar eps I recorded for us since he's been gone.

We are planning to have a bigger do next year in England, but for now we just want to knock out this AOS. Once I got him, I don't wanna give him up!

What a fun topic, btw!

It's gonna cost us between $2000 - 3000 depending on what place we decide to rent. We're having it in Peru. The most expensive thing will be the airfare, for sure. This is for our religious ceremony. We already had our civil ceremony and spent about $300 total.

We are still planning but have spent nothing so far. We have so blessed by friends and family "gifting" us with things for our wedding. We are going to do a legal ceremony as soon as he gets here to get the AOS out of the way. The formal wedding/rececption is 10/10/09. Here is what we have so far:

Venue : Free

One of the docs I work for offered his home with formal garden for the ceremony and a big red barn for the reception. So we are going with the whole fall harvest thing, think pumpkins, candy apples, corn stalks and hay.

Cake : Free, gift from my friend and co-worker Jen.

Pictures : Free, being done by friend and co-worker Kerry.

Flowers : Free so far, bouquet a gift from friend and co-worker Jessica. Not going to do many flowers at all.

Food : Free so far, friends are doing pot luck dishes, we are having 2 barbeque grills going, Jen's husband is going to deep fry 2 turkeys and Peter (the doc who owns the house) REALLY wants to buy a pig and do a hog roast. I told him go for it, not saying I'm eating it, but I'm sure the guests will.

Some decorations : Free, Jessica is going to get a load of pumpkins, hay and corn from her parents farm.

Invitations : Free, gift from the maid of honor (probably more because I don't really care about how fancy they are but she does  )

Tables and chairs : Free, Jen's husband is a fire fighter and the maintenance guy for a church and we are borrowing them.

We do have to buy all our clothing, and a lot of decorations. I want a ton of white lights in the rafters in the barn, etc. Not sure of total cost yet but I want to keep it under 1,000. We are not doing a honeymoon, we did our big trip together when I went to Europe in April for 2 weeks with him. It is far more important to us to have a smaller, simpler affair with the people who really care about us, then a big elaborate thing filled with people we haven't seen for years. All of these people have been by my side through this journey and they are so happy for us, that they all want to do something to make sure we have a special day.

I believe that wedding is the most important moment of two person who genuinely in love, but spending a lot of money, for me is not reasonable especially the this days. So we spent more than $1,500 less than $2,000. We had a nice civil wedding ceremony, we have 10 guests on our reception @ TAO NYC,I had lovely informal wedding gown, we bought it online. We're just lucky to have a professional video, camera man. so nice,

The most important is you love each other so much no matter what.

We didn't do a big wedding. None of my family where there and my wifes parents are deceased so we just had something small but personal. So it was my wifes 2 sisters and nephew.

Marriage Licence $35

Wedding Chapel with minister $100 its a lovely chapel http://mistyvalleyweddingchapel.com

Redneck Cuff Links (safety pins) $1.99

I had my own tux but could not find any Cuff Links where I live in KY.

The whole K1 visa process the AOS and a deposit for our own place all adds up too.

I have a cousin and shes getting married. She gets on my nerves going on about it all the time. Shes having the full white wedding. I didn't see the point in spending all that money when we have got better things to spend our money on.

The white wedding thing is a persons choice its just not our choice.

Well, I think we (My mother and I) are going to manage to get through about $20k after it's all said and done, some from my parents, some from his parents, some from us - the US gov gave me $7500 for buying a house last year!! I'm doing my darndest to keep it as small as possible, I wanted to invite a couple cousins and aunts, but then was told that if I invited one, I had to invite all. So that's 24 people right there. Plus some of my closest friends (just 5+spouses). He's got siblings and they have long time partners, we are lucky that they and his parents will all be able to attend, so another 6 for him.

Someone mentioned that due to excessive preoccupation with the visa, they haven't really had the time/brain power to get upset about the wedding. This so far has been true for me as well, but I've got 4 months yet to get my bridezilla on.

As it stands, with my dress purchased and my sister's (MOH, and my only attendant) as well, and a catering contract signed, we are running under budget. (woo hoo!)

Some of the heavy hitters are:

- Rings, we want to make our own, as they are the lasting and every-day-thereafter keepsake and symbol of our commitment etc. We are also taking a pre-wedding weekend to go to New York to do it! (newyorkweddingring.com)

- Caterer. Dropping about $3000 (including table/chair rental AND they will reconfigure between ceremony/reception). Mother and I both want to have good food and service with no plastic utensils/cups/plates etc.

- Dress I ended up falling in love with a dress which is much too expensive, but I think after a couple of years of mooning over it in my closet I will sell it on, and bring the net cost down to something much more reasonable.

- Venue We really wanted to have our wedding in a place meaningful to us, so we are going to do it where we had one of our first dates...but it costs...BUT we are using the same space for the ceremony and the reception, so getting our full money's worth.

Also managed to find ways to cut costs:

- Photographer is a family friend (but pro wedding photographer) and will do the wedding and a book and enlargements + all our pictures full res on a DVD for our wedding present (their offer, not ours. We asked them to do the wedding, they said it was free).

- My cousin is really good with hair - she'll be doing mine for free

- Renting silk flower arrangements - No wilting in the summer heat, No running around to fetch them the day of/before. Oh, and something in the single digit dollars.

- Invitations - we are making them ourselves.

When I said a big wedding is stressful, I didn't mean the whole process. The PLANNING part is stressful. We are done planning already and we are a month away from the wedding, we now relax. It was very stressful before, especially when dealing with decorators (I don't think it is worth it to spend a fortune on flowers that will die the next day). But we are not stressed anymore. We just can't wait for our big day now.

Oh, and I would very much like to see pictures of your (VJ'ers) weddings, if you don't mind sharing them on this thread. Love wedding pictures! :luv:
