Hi guys. I was thinking about it last night and thought I'd post a thread asking everyone how often you get to see your fiances/spouses?

For me its usually every 3-4 months. It'll be 3 months now when i leave for Florida in 2 weeks.

When we wer egoing thru the process, usually 1 of us flew to see the other monthly. think longest we went without seeing each other in over 2.5 yrs was like 40 days. Airlines loved us,lol

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

We spoke every single morning before we went to work for about ½ hr and then from about 6 pm-11:30 every night - luckily we had VONAGE.

Visiting wise we saw eachother every 6 weeks - 2 months for a week at a time. Longest we went was about 3 months once - thought it would kill me

For the first three years of our relationship everyday, we lived in the same town where I was going to school in the U.S. He went on a 4 month deployment early in our relationship, that sucked. After me moving back to Canada I or he would visit monthly as it was only a 4 hour drive. Since he got orders and moved to a new base in January of this year I flew down to visit him in March and stayed until the beginning of April. So April to end of September....too damn long in my opinion to wait.....the longest we will go seeing each other EVER. :crying: We talk alot on the phone at varying times of day depending on his schedule as it changes alot. Trying to get back to using Skype with webcam ( I also have a long distance package with my local phone service) so we can at least "see" each other but again that only works if our schedules do not conflict.

I think the only thing that makes the 3-4 months we don't see each other any better is that we talk every day for at least 2 hours. My friends think i'm crazy and what could we possibly have to say for 2 hours or more a day but we always have stuff to talk about.

We would go about 4-8 weeks at a time... but, we make up for it with talking 3-5 times a week. Each round (aka phone call) can go anywhere from 15 minutes to 3, 4, 5, or more hours. All depends on what is happening in our lives. I've been told I'm crazy, too. But, if you think about it logically, married couples, or couples who live in the same area, spend that much time together weekly, b/c of going out to eat, movies, whatever... just spending time together.

But, that all ends in 10 days when he moves over here! Yea! :)

I varied a lot for us depending on what was going on. The summer my Mom died he flew in every month. After that I visited him at about 3 month intervals. Then I went to live with him for almost three months, came home to sort out my packet three stuff and went back to the States for the month between sending that in and my interview. All of this was possible because I could telecommute to work.

There was a period where just before I moved we didn't see eachother for about 2.5 months, the idea was that he would come up when my interview happened, this was so that we could save money.

So finally in May he came up to see me during the second weekend and we had just missed eachother so much that he flew up for 3 weekends in a row after that. So the whole: 'lets save money and not see each other' plan didn't quite work.

It was around once every 4-6 weeks for us.... The longest we went was the last visit before I moved, he came to see me in Sept. and I moved in Nov, we were trying to save money too. But we also talked on the phone nightly for 1-2 hours, we never went one day without speaking on the phone our entire LD relationship

I was INSANELY lucky and my wife lived just about 45 minutes away so I saw her every weekend and every holiday :) Main reason I believe in some type of God, not sure which, is that when she had to leave the States due to our crappy government, her entire family got to move to Canada when another family dropped their spot a DAY before they had to leave :) Was quite the weird time in our lives but looking back we could not have been luckier. :)

My wife has been back since June 5, 2007. Now we're just livin' man, L I V I N :)

Over the course of 8 years we have had over 40 + trips back and forth across the border. The longest trip was 176 days, the longest time apart was 9 months (right after 911), we usually saw each other every 3 months. We MSN chatted a couple of times a day, played pinochle, gin, crib, hearts, backgammon for countless hours, and have switched to bridge over the past 18 months. After Carnell had 2 phone bills well over $ 350.00 US, we instant messangered until I found out about voice chat. Now towards the end we talk about 2 times a week, still play cards and wait.

You have to admit - we're all pretty lucky. When I read through other forums on this topic <<<<SHUDDER>>>> and see how infrequently couples actualy talk - I don't know how they can form any kind of real relationship. I always want to say something, but it just comes out judgemental.

And we all know no matter how much we talked and interacted - the actual move makes us homesick and crazy some days too.

Just a random thought
