CAN I REQUEST FOR A NAME CHANGE DURING INTERVIEW?

I didn't want to hijack another poster's thread so I started a new one..

If, in my application, I didn't indicate that I wanted a name change, but while waiting for the interview had a change of heart, can I request for a name change during the interview?

I've been thinking about it for a while. I'm sticking to my maiden last name but I want to change my first name. The only thing that's stopping me is that I don't want to offend my parents for their choice of name for me.

I understand that I can still get my name changed in a court for a fee but I'd like to know if the option is still open for me during the naturalization process.

I don't see why not. The interview is your chance to make any needed corrections and additions to your application. That's why you have to sign the application again at the interview to indicate the number of corrections and the number of pages of supporting evidence you submitted. The name change doesn't affect anything prior to the interview. It might affect where your Oath is held and your new name would appear on your Naturalization Certificate.

Yes I think there should be no problem in doing it.As during interview,officer goes over ur application to make sure that all the information you have provided is still true.So u can tell the officer that time that u want to change ur name now.

My wife was asked if she wanted to change her last name during the interview. It is fine.

When i had my interview the IO asked me if I wanted to change my name eventhough I already wrote NO to my application. So I don't think it would be a problem. Just ask the IO if in case she/he forget to ask you

Would retype the first page of the application with the second page on the other side and bring that it, I normally print on both sides just like the original form and bring that in. Hand that to your IO and ask him/her if they will put your new sheet in place of the one you sent in with your application, everything else is the same except for your name change. We did that for other reasons, no problem.

That way, your new name change request will be typed perfectly clear rather than being hen scratched in to avoid errors.

yes you can still change your name if that's what you desire..just let the IO know if she does not mention. They usually go over again your application and ask this and that. If you wish to change your name then she'll type/print a Petition for Name Change with your infos, have you sign it and on your Oath Ceremony, you'll receive your certificate in your new name & attached to it is the Petition for Name change you signed during the interview with the certification & signature from the court.

my interview wast last week and i changed my name. The IO asked. It is not a problem at all and you can change any name you want.

I posed the same question in another thread and didn't get much response. What it will come down to is whether the District Court or the USCIS generally administers the Oath ceremonies in the jurisdiction where you live.

Nope it wont be affected at all.You just have to sign the court petition of name change besides ur citizenship certificate with ur new name.That's it.

I get the impression it's not quite that seamless a process in Denver. The District Court website here says the following:

How is the court involved in the naturalization process?

The district court holds ceremonies for those individuals requesting a court ceremony for the purpose of requesting a name change as part of their naturalization process.

Now that tells me that here, naturalizations with name changes are handled differently than naturalizations that do not involve name changes.

u can just wait for it bcz that is the process that they ask u if u want to change ur name.
