How did your MENA SO propose marriage?

Just curious to see how your MENA man proposed to you...I don't know a lot about my MENA VJ friends so I just wanted to start a topic to get to know you better. Here is my story:

I met my husband, Raad, in a Yahoo chat room. Turns out he was with a friend showing him how to use the chat room. His friend wanted to know how to speak privately with someone in the chat room & my husband randomly picked my name to start an IM conversation. We opened our cams and that was it. We were both hooked!

After months of talking hours & hours every night, he began to talk about marriage. I think he even asked me a couple of times but I told him that he has to ask me in person...it can't be online. I knew I wanted to marry him and be with him forever, just wanted to say YES in person. :)

So I bought my plane ticket last July and flew to meet him in October 2008. I arrived at the Amman airport in Jordan and when I saw him....well, I knew that was it for me...I never felt nervous...it just felt right. We had to drive about 1 1/2 hours to get to his home from the airport. We made a pit stop at his grandmother's house to meet her & then went home. I slept for a while because I was so tired after that long friggin flight. Later that day we were just laying there talking & he said hold on I'll be right back. He came back & started to kiss me and I felt something in my mouth....it was a ring! I pulled it out and he looked at me and said "will you marry me?" Of course I said yes. It was so unexpected and wonderful for me!! I don't really hear of anyone doing it that way so it was special and I'll never forget it! It feels like yesterday!

What about you...???

Wow Amanda that was great. Good thing you did not swallow the ring, LOL

As I told last night, he proposed at a sunset picnic at Eiffel Tower. He told me to come on , did not know where we were going, got to Eiffel tower it was the first time I ever saw it, he took off his back pack, inside picnic stuff, chesse, crackers, 2 glasses, Coke, LOL. He had my engagement ring on a napkin like a napkin holder. He place it in my lap, I just picked up the rolled napkin to remove what I thought was just a napkin ring, but no, a diamond engagement ring, then he proposed. I could live on the moment for the rest of my life. As you, I will never forget that sunset or that beautiful moment of my life.

Truly happy!!!

New life, new adventures, and a new attitude.

I will be crying when I read how romantic and creative some your proposals were.

I met Tarik online through a MySpace email he sent to me in mid August '05.

I don't know what it is about these men falling head over heels so quickly but he become smitten immediately and just started to refer to me as "his" wife. It was flattering to receive so much attention and he is so handsome and attentive listener but in the beginning I wasn't so serious.

We had our online thing, it went on. We spent plenty of time chatting and getting to know each other (as much as one can from that distance)

I wouldn't say there was an actual proposal or a ring for that matter (that would have been nice :ot:), but nothing about our relationship is very conventional. The rings came after the civil marriage, when we had a little ceremony.

It wasn't until March of '06 that I realized it was real and I wanted to save myself just for him.

Sept 11 2006 I made my trip to Morocco (about 3 weeks). It was very exciting and then the talk continued more seriously about marriage. My divorce had just come through but I had to take this time, meet him first and then make up my mind.

Early Dec 06 I was back again, this time for 2 months and the marriage took place. It was alot of red tape getting that certificate and during that time still "getting to know each other" but I really feel in love with him and saw he was very serious about me.

We had no idea what were in for in this visa journey but thank god all the hard work, patience and perserverence paid off. He is now here with me and I can finally actually be his wife :luv:

2 years married this last Feb 2, 2009.

Farid and I had no proposal between us. We met online in Yahoo messenger and immediately discussed getting married. We both wanted something real and lasting so we decided to get married when I traveled to Morocco the first time. I stayed and did not return until he got his visa which was a year later. It was wierd, crazy, strange, and funky living in Morocco but as long as I am with him I will live anywhere. We have no children so that makes it even more fun and exciting. We spend all of our free time together. God has really blessed me with a super duper husband.

Sunday Oct 23rd 2005 I was at a friends house bcz we were going to Helen Ga to see the waterfalls. Oct 27 1998 was when my father died of cancer so I get really emotional and sad during that month. Helen Ga was one of the last trips my dad took us on before he died, so my friend thought it would be a good idea to go there in memory of him. While I wait for her to get dressed, I was online in a christian yahoo chat room. That day there were SO many Egypt muslims guys in that room and when they saw my profile picture they would pop on and say the dumbest stuff like (oh i love u baby or hey sexy) so that made me pretty annoyed from the get go. So when Adam popped on I made a smart comment to him bcz I saw him in sunglasses in his profile pic. I said, oh you must be egyptian too with the dark hair dark skin and dark eyes are you muslim like the other guys in this chat room? He said he was egyptian but not muslim so I was shocked. I had never talked to a guy from Egypt before and to find out hes christian was interesting. We chatted for about 30 minutes and then I had to go bcz I was on my way to the waterfalls up in Helen.

A couple days later on anniversary of my dads passing Oct 27 I was back at my friends house and we were playing on computers, then Adam popped online and told me his dad had gotten into a car accident and he was in the hospital bcz his brain was swelling the day we first talked on that Sunday. So, I told him I usually celebrate someones birthday in memory of my dads death and that I just hadnt done anything yet, so I told him lets pray for your father that God would heal him so prayed together over the internet. I would say everyday after that we pretty much chatted online about life, beliefs, family. My grandparents called me up in Nov and told me there were going to Israel in March but would also do a 3 day stop over in Cairo Egypt. They had never been to Egypt before and wanted to know if I wanted anything from there. (I usually get soap from Israel)

January 2006 comes around and my mom is online and we do voice chat and I tell her im talking to Adam and hes from Eygpt. So all 3 of us do voice and camera chat. Mom asks him the 50 million question thing. Then my grandparents were over there so they saw him in the camera and said hello on the voice. So now that my family knew of Adam, I asked my grandparents if they would be willing to meet Adam if he went to them in Cairo. My grandparents said Yes.

March my grandparents went to Cairo and Adam met them there. He was so nervous around my grandfather he said. My grandmother kissed Adam on the cheek. A week later my grandmother called me up and said hes so handsome and my height and that she kissed his cheek! She said she and my grandfather think hes a good guy and that she told him Im very important to them and that Adam would have to love me and take care of me and that Im stubborn and strongwilled and independant as well.

After that week, Adam asked me to marry him and he sent me money to pick out the engagement ring that i wanted. :star:

In July 2006 I went to Egypt alone and we got married 4 days before I had to come home... gosh I wish it had been sooner ...

My husband told me at one point when we were all together, the bunch of ... when I called him "brother" ... "I'm not your brother ... I will be your husband" We all laughed then but years later it came true.

He informally proposed (corny) online ... then again when we saw each other next, but formally wrote my mother a letter asking her premission to marry me (even cornyier LOL)!

After three months of long visits to him at his shop in the souk, and basically going on long walks all around Rabat because he kinda didn't know how to date (country boy :luv: ), he took me to a cafe and said:

"Look, I think we should get married."

i said, "Hmmmm... i don't know..."

and he interrupted (because he was bad at interrupting back then): "Okay, well you take your time. But i know i want to marry you. You just let me know when you are ready. Give me one month advance so i can save money and get everything prepared. But i know that i want to marry you."

and that was all she wrote...

:blush::blush:

Maybe he's no Romeo, but he's my love and one man show.... :luv::luv::luv:

My husband is a very practicing Muslim so he tried to keep our relationship as halal as possible until we got married. Because of my age at the time it was really hard to do what we wanted. So his "proposal" was a letter and then later that day we went out (with family members) and picked out a promise, engagement, or mahr ring. it was a silver ring with designs on the side and one heart in the middle with a dark green emerald. that was July 18, 2004 and we had a party (engagement but it had everything needed in an Islamic marriage) July 30, 2006 and then we finally got our official marriage certificate and party Dec 27, 2008. Not your most romantic or dreamt proposal (amanda and paris) but alhamdoliallah everything fell into place. Thanks for putting this thread up! I love reading them!

I had recently returned from a trip to Egypt in Nov 2003 and was checking out the pyramid cam and one link went to another etc, so ended up meeting a person from one of these sites associated with Egypt. What I found out it was an international chat site. So I found myself "going" to the North Africa/Egypt area. Wasn't too long when Wael came on, said hi and then nothing! Being new I thought I did something wrong...pushed wrong button, clicked something, but nope it was just him waiting for me to start the conversation. Found him to be somewhat shy and really didn't know what to say to him. We began what was at first just a friendship. Over the next two years I knew he was my sweetheart and didn't want to be away from him. He was so kind, interesting, smart, funny and optimistic about everything that had to do with life.

I made my second trip to Egypt to meet him in Oct 2005 and stayed only 2 wks. I didn't want to leave.

After my return to the states he told me he wanted to ask me something. I waited and waited. Again I thought he had left the chat or I had clicked on something, but it was just he was so afraid to ask me to marry him. Finally I said "Wael, just spit it out"!!!!!!!!!! I think I woke him up and he laughed and laughed at me. So finally he asked me to marry him and I said yes. I heard this HUGE sigh of relief!!

Went back to Egypt again in Sept 2006 and we married Oct 28, 2006. Stayed with him for 4 months. Came back to the states, but returned to Egypt again in Sept 2007. I kept telling him this time I wasn't leaving until he went back to the states with me. He got his visa Nov 1, 2007 and we came back together Dec 23, 2007! He's just my love.

He never did...

OMG, I'm going to go home and yell at him. I just remembered, I think his mother asked me to marry him! :P Teasing but actually, it was just so family oriented through the whole process, family around discussing it, coming with us to pick out our engagement rings, getting the engagement party together, etc. I don't remember actually being alone for a romantic proposal.:lol:

I love reading all the different kinds of proposals -- cute ones, romantic ones, non-proposal proposals :D And rclouse, what a backdrop!

We started out just as online friends, very comfortable joking around and sharing our opinions and stories about our lives, comparing our values, which were very similar overall, and no romantic talk whatsoever. I have absolutely no idea when we decided to get hitched or even when the subject first came up. It was a mutual decision that just seemed more and more inevitable over time, especially after I'd visited him and his family. He's my best friend, and it just felt like we belonged together. Still feels that way, and more so every day. :luv:

Kamal and I met on a site called Webdate. After several months of talking and talking about getting married I went to Morocco. And while he was out shopping and I was getting henna done, he picked up a gift for my son. He came home walking into the house with a sword in one hand and a little box in the other. He says shaking the sword at me, "Marry me or else". it was probably the most romantic thing that has ever been done for me by any man. And the rest, well thats history.

Funny....I don't even remember the proposal. It just kind of evolved I guess.

Now the wedding I remember. I kept my eye on the door planning on a quick escape. And by the look on my husbands face I think he was thinking the same thing. But we were both too nervous to do it so we got married instead.

Glad we did.
