Port of Entry - February 26, 2010 Baltimore International, Maryland

USCIS -- ROC package sent off

November 26, 2011 to Vermont station November 30, 2011 received NOA1December 16, 2011 received biometrics appointment.

January 04, 2012 Biometrics

September 2, 2012, RFE Received.

September 22, 2012 RFE responded to

October 15, 2012 ROC approved, 10 Green card on its way.

I want the Canadian dollar to drop - so we can exchange our U.S. dollars into Canadian ones :)

Canadian dollar is at $0.99 today!!!!

#######! I should have waited until today to transfer my CAD to USD!!

Once I start my new job I would like the dollar to drop sharply though! :yes: I am ok with paying my bills in Canada, but not if the CAD surpasses the USD! :wacko:

When did you exchange it? If it was this year, it couldn't have been too bad.

There's supposed to be a report coming out on Friday that could drive the dollar up over par...I'm crossing my fingers

I spoke with a rep from Wells Fargo in Texas. They are giving 94 cents on the dollar although Custom House says

98 cents. Do all banks/credit unions use different conversions?

Banks rarely trade at the current 'market rate.' Usually they'll trade at the end of the day prior or sometimes even end of the week prior depending.

right now on CH it is 1 CAD = 0.9713 USD and of course that changes by the minute!!

I think some dont realize, that yes ur bank may not charge you any fees, but their exchange rate wont be that great! Sure if one is only transferring small amounts of $$$, it is no big deal,but for larger amounts, it makes sense to investigate it! Setting up a CH account is free, so doesn't hurt to have one. It does take a bit of time to set up, so not something one wants to leave for the last minute to do! a CH rep actually calls you to verify info. As well u have to mail/fax or scan//email a bit of info to them!

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied,that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

Yea, the banks aren't the best place to exchange $$.

I could be wrong on this, but I think exchanging CAD-USD is cheaper if done in Canada.

When I exchanged money at the bank in Canada it was usually $0.02 below what the dollar was really trading at....

but when we exchanged money in the US, it was $0.04 below the current rate.

It all depends! Few yrs back,my parents gave me a chunk of cash! They checked in with the bank of Montreal and I checked Custom house to see what the better route was going to be. CH had a better rate. But it probably varies!
