I hope someone can help me. I think most of our paperwork is filed and my fiance will be granted an interview soon. She has found that a wedding announcement is good to have for the interview but I do not understand this. How can I do a wedding announcement when I have no idea when she will be granted a visa? Also is this something that you do in a local newspaper or what?

Thanks to anyone who knows anything about this!

A wedding announcement would be very difficult since you don't know exactly when she will be receiving her visa. I was planning an April wedding because we were told he'd have his visa in March. If I had've got invitations I would be S.O.L. right now.

LOL! What would the wedding annoucement say? "We're getting married at some point, we hope" written in 2 different languages and mailed around 2 different countries?

Seriously, it's not required to have done that. If your fiancee is asked about that during the interview, I'd say it's best to tell the truth and explain that since the visa was so up in the air, how could you announce anything? The announcement wouldn't contain any information that you couldn't just say over the phone (i.e. "Hey grandma, I'm getting married!").

Don't worry about it! Just make sure you have lots of evidence of an on-going relationship and documentation of all the time you've spent together

You don't need a Wedding announcement! In fact, the USCIS advises that you do not make plans until after you've received the Visa. You don't need it!

Thanks guys! I even had my attorney's help mention something of this. I told my fiance and attorney both that the idea of an announcement seems ridiculous. Unless I announce that at sometime before I depart this earth I plan on marrying my fiance at a time that will determined later.

Again thanks to you all!

joeyjoey is right - USCIS advises that you do not make any plans until after you receive the Visa. If she is asked about when the wedding is - which I doubt they will do - she can just say 'we couldn't make any plans until we knew we had the visa, but we will be married within the 90 days of my entry to the US' or something like that. Too many people have been badly burned financially by making plans and sending out announcements and invitations before hand then having to cancel. What you can do, if she wants an announcement, is to publish an 'engagement' announcement in the newspaper. Dates are not required for that and it provides good evidence as well.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

What about an engagement announcement? I am going to do one. Your family can Happily anncoune it. ANd my friends are sending me happy engagement cards. If they want prove of a relationship. I am not sure, but I have a similiar idea. What does VJ think?

That's entirely up to you, your fiance and friends and family. You do not need it for getting a K-1 visa. They are mainly concerned that a bonafide relationship exists. Engagement cards can help as proof, but typically phone records, e-mails, photos, boarding passes/hotel receipts, are more than enough evidence.

Good luck!

You can have printed or print your self and mail out engagement announcements. Or announce your engagement in the local newspaper. Check any kind of wedding website for more info. I agree with the other posting, its not a necessary piece of evidence and USCIS tells you not to make actual wedding date plans in advance of the visa approval.

But if a newspaper clipping announcing your engagement would give you piece of mind, there is no harm and could be submitted as intent to marry.

Our families did an engagement annoucement in the local paper and I have included it my k-1 paperwork...

No idea if it will help..
