Fingerprint expiration?

Hello,

I was just wondering if anyone knew exactly how long the fingerprints 'last' that were taken for the I-751? I had mine done in July last year, I will file next month for N400. The reason I'm asking is because the tech had quite a job to get my fingerprints to show up and had to do ink and paper prints also. He said he could tell I typed a lot for my job (which is completely correct), and I'm little concerned that one more year of typing has taken its toll on my fingers :D Alternatively does anyone have any tips for making the ridges show up better? My hands are really smooth, and many letters on my keyboard are worn away. I was trying to figure out if I was dehydrated, would that make it better or worse :D Oh the things we worry about during this process... :P

Supposedly they last 15 months, but I've heard of people who had unexpired prints for I-751 who still had to do them again for the N-400. Others didn't have to, and there doesn't seem to be much logic to it.

i don't know some people say they ask and are told 12 months others are told 15. But I had to repeat mine in about a 1 year. I did the ROC one in May 2008 and the citizenship in April, but I applied for citizenship in march 2009 (so that less than 1 year from when I took the last ones). It seems its random that they have you do the finger prints or not after the ROC.

Mailed N-400 March 6th via priority certified mail and Rec'd 9th (confirmation by USPS)

NOA rec'd: 3/19/2009 (date 3/16/2009, priority 3/9/2009)

Biometrics rec'd 3/26/2009, appt 4/9/2009

IL: 5/22/09

ID: 07/06/2009

Oath: 07/16/2009

SSN updated: 7/16/2009 (not received yet)

Passport rec'd: 8/15/2009(nat. certif not rec'd yet)

Read a pfd from Emilio at the USCIS website on this, 15 months, but was asked why from congress why does it still cost 80 bucks if you already have them. Says, it cost him that much to store and to retrieve them. But that 80 bucks to us is nothing compared to that extremely long drive, the expense, and days missed from work. Only eleven months went by between the I-751 and the N-400, but still had to go. And with the N-400 they don't even take your picture, just the prints they already have taken twice before. But still 80 bucks with no photo.

Then you have to have a soft job, while I am an engineer, still have to get my hands dirty touching hot automotive parts and getting solder iron burns, good thing my wife has an office job. Worse for me is making tests at sub-zero temperatures, skin on my fingers get large cracks. Good thing I am not the applicant, would have to sit in the office for a couple of months or go on welfare.

I had my biometrics taken in July 2008 for removal of conditions, and then 2 weeks ago for my N400 application. That's only 10 months apart. Luckily, the ASC is just a couple of blocks from my house.

The technician also had a hell of a time getting my prints. I'm still keeping my fingers crossed that I don't have to repeat it.

Thanks - yes, that's exactly what's confusing me - the lack of logic, but I guess I shouldn't be surprised :P

Thanks for sharing your experience - reprints in basically less than a year... hmmm

Yes, have a soft job :D Am a physicist by training, but spend all my time doing computer modeling these days :P Seems my fingerprints don't regenerate though like they use to, you can see 'em, but you can't feel 'em :D

Thanks - wow, just 10 months gap like queendlee above... Hope you don't have to go back and do them again (F) I'm scared of having to get police clearances from every country if they can't do the fingerprints, don't have any issues but just the hassle factor given that I used to work for a multinational oil co. and lived in a number of places... Did you call the FBI to see if they went through? That's what I did last year, to check that the fingerprints were even 'process-able' and they confirmed they were.
