Applying for naturalization without permanent card in hand

There are a number of posts in the 'Removing Conditions' forum about the slowdown with the production of the permanent 10-year green cards. No idea what the problem is as they were generating them very quickly for awhile. My question is: my I-751 was approved and I have the letter to prove it but no physical 10-yr card. I'm eligible to apply for naturalization in July. If I still don't have the card, will that be problematic in any way?

Thanks.

Yes, I have the two year card.

Then you should be fine!! I also sent in my N400 without the actual card (I got it in the mail a week after) and am now waiting for my interview to be scheduled.

Just send a copy of the 2y card+copy of extension letter or approval notice and if you got a stamp on the passport, send a copy of that passport page!

Don't worry!! You're good to go. Also by the time you get the interview, you'll probably have the card so you can bring it with you to the interview. Good Luck!

You dont need the card to apply, you can include a copy of the approval letter and then when you go for your Citizenship interview take a photocopy of the new card as well as the card its self.

Agree with Tini27. You don't have to have the 10yr physical card in hand to apply for N400. Send in a copy of the 2 yr card front and back, copy of NOA1, copy of approval notice, and on the cover letter, explain that you have only received the approval letter but you have not received the 10 yr GC in hand yet. Also, you can always show the IO the 10 yr GC (which you will get later) during interview. So no worries! :star:

Thanks everyone for responding! What would I do without you?!

Yeah, all you need is proof that you are a LPR, expired green card with a current one year extension, I-551 stamp in your current valid foreign passport, or a I-94.

If the date your conditional expired is getting close to one year after with your one year extension, you better make an infopass appointment to get that I-551 stamp or bring in two passport photos and get that I-94. It's your responsibility to keep yourself legal and if not, you will be in deep trouble. A note from your mom won't work.

It was due to the stress of that I-751 that led us to apply for the N-400 at the earliest possible date, then a few months go by, and it's bye bye to the USCIS, a great relief. No more AR-11's and I-865's to worry about, and you don't have to carry your USC certificate to go to the bathroom.
