It was one of those ads in gmail :-)

We'd gotten engaged and decided to see what needed to be done. He'd already gone back to Germany and we were emailing about fiance visas and the link popped up along the side of the email. My husband is actually the one who clicked on it and then sent me the link.

Shortly after my fiance proposed I started doing some mad internet research looking into visa options. I honestly had NO idea what was required of us. I started off on government websites and after I decided that the K-1 was the best option for us, I found VJ on google. We joined and used the guides to complete the original packet, but never posted anything well after we received our NOA2. We were determined to get the visa without the help of a lawyer so thank goodness for VJ! It wouldn't have been possible without it.

Hi Everyone,

What an interesting question indeed, that July09Bride asked here:

I think it would be kinda fun to discover how everyone found out about VJ. Since the topic came up in another thread, I thought this might be kinda fun. :)

How did YOU find out about VJ???

My answer to this question and as to "How did you find out about VJ?" story goes like this:

I had visited and married in the USA in April 2006, and was "stuck" here in the USA, while I was in the process of filing the AOS/2yr green card (which I filed in August 2006 and got approved in November 2006). So in July/August 2006, with nothing better to do (and with no legal permanent residency status yet), while waiting for my case, I went to my local library (which they were nice enough to give me a library card then), and did more research on my own (even though I already had a lawyer for my somewhat unusual case). I "googled" online regarding immigration information and thus found "Visa Journey".

I started reading the posts on VJ as a "guest", but didn't join as a "member" until January 2007.

And the rest is "VJ history".......

Fast forward 2-3 years later, and I'm still here on VJ (and will still be here for awhile), 1500+ posts later, still addicted to VJ. Since then, I've filed my I-751/10yr green card (which I filed in August 2008, but am still waiting for the card), am pregnant (due in July 2009), and am looking forward to filing for US Citizenship/Naturalization in August 2009....

Well, that's my (AntandD's) VJ story so far. Now it's your turn, "How did you find out about VJ?"

VJ is definitely a helpful, supportive, and friendly online community, indeed! Thanks everyone here for making VJ a positive and memorable expierience for all!

Ant (A VJ Addict....2+ years and counting....)

I was on Google asking a really specific question (about the process) and VJ was the first thing to pop up! Because it has ALL the answers.

I've been here since before the Ewok even.

My husband's friend Jason was getting married to a psycho Belgian woman, and she found the site and when James and I found ourselves having to give up on Canadian immigration, she sent me the link.

Then she married Jason and duped him for a green card. Left him as soon as they had their intrerview.

divorced - April 2010 moved back to Ontario May 2010 and surrendered green card

PLEASE DO NOT PRIVATE MESSAGE ME OR EMAIL ME. I HAVE NO IDEA ABOUT CURRENT US IMMIGRATION PROCEDURES!!!!!

I found it through a google search when I was researching the K1 visa. Like Huggles, I had started on the US immigrations sites and then came across this site Nov'07. We didn't file until June '08, so I had done lots of research on here and was so happy we didn't have to use a lawyer!!

Almost identical. Although my fiance's parents had hired a lawyer. Some things didn't make sense to me and not all my questions were answered by him or the U.S govt sites..so i did my own searching. Stayed a guest for awhile..then created my account. Best thing I ever did :) And i found VJ through google as well lol mostly from the "how long does k1 visa take" question.

Like a lot of you, I didn't know anything about K-1 visas. I thought that maybe I had to fill out a few forms and then could be with my fiance in a few weeks. It was a nice thought while it lasted. ;)

I found VJ via Google. I don't know what search term I used because I didn't know what a K-1 visa was then, but I landed here and have followed the guides and the advice by members. When I joined, I hadn't done anything on the long K-1 timeline. The other day, I looked at it again, and I've finished it. I still have lifting of conditions down the road, but with a lot of help from VJ (and without the help of lawyers), I moved to the US legally, married my sweetheart, and am now a permanent legal resident. Thanks, VJ. :)

We found it on Google also.

Now I tell anyone I meet that's engaged to an American to check this site out.

~ Catherine

I do too. After Tim and I were engaged, and I told folks up here I was moving to the States, all the horror stories came out. "Well, I know someone, married an American, she can't get her green card"...etc. So I dig a little to the story, found out they did it completely wrong. I think that a lot of Canadian/Americans don't think immigration because we've never had problems between the two countries. We don't need a visa to go visit, and we can be there longer than other countries. Plus, years ago, all this wasn't needed. You married an American, and it didn't matter which country you lived in. Simple. Things have changed so much over the years, and a lot of people don't know that yet.
