i-130 and g-325a questions

I am an American citizen and my wife is Canadian.

I am trying to get my papers together, and I have 3 questions:

1) Who signs the bottom of the g-325a with my wife's information, me (the petitioner) or my wife (who i am petitioning for)?

2) The instructions for the i-130 says that the check or money order needs to be from an institution in the USA. Can i get a check for American Dollars from BMO or a money order from Western Union and send that, or is it only from a US bank or institution. (Please only answer this one if you know for a fact that you are right)

3) If I am using a passport to prove I am a US citizen, do I need to photocopy all of the pages, or only the front title page with my name etc...?

4) How many copies do I need to make of the forms (i-130 and g-325a) for the rest of the process? I saw somewhere 2 of each, but does that mean i need 2 copies of all 4 identical pages of the g-325a?

Thanks

You mean one copy of 1 of the pages or all 4?

Thanks for your reply...

I see your filing I-130 but upon reading the guides at the top of the page it says you need 4 copies of the G-325A with your info, dated and signed by you the US citizen...and 4 copies of the G-325A with your honey's info dated and signed by her. (This is for your initial filing) make yourself a copy of each though. Look at the top of this page under Guides, and you will see I-130, click on that to give you more info. Good luck with the rest of your journey.

If you download the form G325 and look at the bottom left hand corner you will see that there is a different code on each page of the form. There are four pages. Although the service center can make a copy of one page because they all contain the same info, it is best to copy your entire packet including all four pages of the g325 and keep for your records.

I got 2 different answers to question #1. Who needs to sign the g-325a with my wife's information, the petitioner or the one who is being petitioned for. And when it says at the bottom of the g-325a to type in the applicant's name, who's name should be there? Is the petitioner the applicant or is the one who is being petitioned for the applicant?

g-325a is filled by both petitioner and beneficiary. 4 copies each. Forms with petitioner's info should be signed by the petitioner, forms with beneficiary's info needs to be signed by the beneficiary.

You need to sign the g325 that has your info and your wife signs the one with her info. you should have two sets of four pages. your set...your sig. her set...her sig

Cornbread (or anyone else who knows)-

Good Luck.

Was the western union you purchased the money order at located in the United States, or abroad? Because the instructions says "issued by a bank or institution located in the US"...

Also, do you need to send in a copy of the beneficiary's passport or birth certificate?

1) Who signs the bottom of the g-325a with my wife's information, me (the petitioner) or my wife (who i am petitioning for)?

When we filled out the G-325A papers, I signed MY papers about me, and my husband signed HIS papers about himself. I don't believe you should be signing her papers. The petitioner is the U.S. citizen, and you are petitioning for your beneficiary (the foreign spouse).

2) The instructions for the i-130 says that the check or money order needs to be from an institution in the USA. Can i get a check for American Dollars from BMO or a money order from Western Union and send that, or is it only from a US bank or institution. (Please only answer this one if you know for a fact that you are right)

A U.S. money order from a Canadian bank if you're planning to go that route, but typically it comes from the U.S. citizen, for example my husband went to the post office and had a money order made before he sent it out. I don't know how strict they are in regards to where the money comes from.

3) If I am using a passport to prove I am a US citizen, do I need to photocopy all of the pages, or only the front title page with my name etc...?

Just the one with your biographic information (your picture & info).

4) How many copies do I need to make of the forms (i-130 and g-325a) for the rest of the process? I saw somewhere 2 of each, but does that mean i need 2 copies of all 4 identical pages of the g-325a?

You'll notice that the G-325A is actually 4 copies of the same information. When you fill out the first page, it automatically fills out the rest. Photocopy only the first page of both you & your wife's submissions.

Good luck! :)

You do NOT need your wife's birth certificate or passport at this stage. However, she will be required to submit a long-form birth certificate to NVC. It is important that it is either the original or certified copy (not a notarized photocopy) that lists her parents' names. You might want to order that now while you have time to wait for it.

Regarding your passport as proof of US citizenship. I can't find the link but I recall reading all pages had to be copied and included. That is what we did.

Good luck
