question about already having an american social security number

I'm glad I came across this thread. I worked in the US back in 2004 for a year and they issued me a SSN. I didn't realize that the SNN sticks with me for life. I guess I was under the impression that I would get a new number with this whole process.

My question is.... should I call someone to give the number, because unfortunately I did not include it in the I-129F form.

Any suggestions?

No, that's not really necessary.... because most people who apply for K-1s, don't have SSN #'s so it's not required to input it on the form. When you file for AOS, put the SSN # on the AOS forms.

But once we have our wedding certificate and before I get the GC, could I go to the SSN office and ask for a new SSN card with my new name just for bank, phone stuff? It still will have the work conditions things i guess. And then in the AOS papers, I will also ask for a new one so i can have the work conditions removed

Try the online service MsNowMrs.com. You can change your name there and they will provide all forms for changing SSN, bank accounts, etc.

Facts about SSNs...

1- The number sticks with you for life.

2- The first 3 digits actually "tell" wheat state your SSN was issued through. The last 6 digits tell who you are from that state. (i.e. 526 and 527 are Arizona issued, but 472 is Minnesota)
