I'm pretty much the same, a bit quieter in person.

I met my fiance online.. we met in person almost 3 years afterwards. I flew to Boston for just 4 days because I wanted the security of knowing if things didn't go well, I could go back within a few days. Things were amazing, and I left feeling happy for that, but crushed because I knew that we had a huge journey to take to have each other. We also didn't have sex for absolutely ages. We were each others' firsts, and he knew I had some issues about stuff, so told me he would wait forever if he had to. We talked a lot about it before doing it, which worked for us.

Looking back, I can't believe we waited so long for everything, but it showed me that he had the patience and communicative nature that I needed. We were so young when we met (I was just 16, hence why we took 3 years to meet) and I feel it's worked for us because we've kinda grown together.
