We're going to be travelling in Sept.

We plan to send in V's N-400 in about a week. According to the current timelines, that puts her interview and oath somewhere around August-Sept of this year. We're going to be travelling for two weeks during September, and won't be available for the interview or oath during that time. Can we send in a request along with our application that there be no app'ts during that time? Will USCIS honor the request or will it likely get ignored?

I don't think they will honor your request "not" to give you an appointment...

You can always try to reschedule an interview, but I have read of cases where USCIS fails to note this, and the interviewing officer noting a NO-SHOW when the applicant fails to show up for the original interview date.

There is NO deadline on when to file N-400, why not simply file it just before traveling in September?

I agree w/ YuAndDan, even though you try to approximate a timeline, realistically you cant b/c some people get notices w/in weeks some wait many months, its just a gamble. Either send it before your leave or when you get back. A No Show do to vacation may not fly!

I spent most of April in Brazil. I was eligible to send my N-400 in on March 16 and didn't particularly want to delay the process, but I waited until I got back just to be on the safe side and so I didn't have to worry about a getting a NO SHOW on my biometrics appt while I was on vacation.
