Questions regarding baggage in the airport (i'm a bit worried!)

Hi again VJers! My flight is getting so near and i'm having trouble packing up my stuff. I'm trying to make my two baggages exactly 23 kgs, but I find it hard to make it exactly 23 kgs each. My flight will be on Saturday morning via China Airlines and my POE is LAX. Do i really need to make it exactly 23 kgs each? What about an excess of 1 kg? Am i going to pay for it na ba as an excess baggage? How much kaya? With the hand carry bag, my agency told me sometimes the airline allows more than 7-kg weight if there's only a few passengers, is this true?

yup, any excess, you'll have to pay..don't know exactly how much but it's expensive..try to contact or verify it with your airline.

Sis, as to what my agency told me, two 23 kgs baggage at 7 kgs sa carry-on bag ang weight limit sa US bound. Kaya nga me nagpost kse i want to know if ok lang ba magexcess kahit 1 kg lang at kung gaano ba kastrict sa airport abt the baggage. Parang kulang kse yung weight limit para sa mga gamit ko at ang hirap magbawas kse lahat ng things ko parang napakaimportante sa 'ken hehe...

Hi..if the airlines baggage limit is 23kg..make it 22.5kg.I flew via Continental Airlines and their baggage limit is 23kg per luggage -> 2 Luggages or balikbayan box 23kg each and 1 handcarry which is 18kg for Continental Airlines per passenger.I was travelling with my 3years old daughter so ours was 2 Big suitcases,2 balikbayan boxes with balikbayangear and 2 handcarries.Nag-excess ako sa isang balikbayan box and 1 suitcase upto 32kg each and I paid $50 kc $25 each.By the way..tumawag muna ako sa NAIA tpos pina-connect ko sa Continental Airlines to make sure na $25 ang excess fee upto 32kg each baggage.

Happy trip and God Bless!!!

It's not a silly question. Mine, i used "kilohan", a type of weighing scale use to measure rice (per kilo, not per sack) and another flat weighing scale use to measure person's weight.

I used Personal body weighing scale that is by lbs..I got my weight first then carried my baggage and got the total weight and subtracted my weight to the weight of the baggage+my weight together and divided it to 2.2 to convert to kilogram.

Hi Kryztine,

Check with your airlines or their website for the excess baggage fee. I travelled via NWA and my suitcases weighed 22 kgs and 29 kgs .I paid P2,500 for the excess fee. It is better to pay the excess fee than to leave some of your valuable things or to squeeze everything in your 2 bags. If you think you will have an excess baggage, then make sure you will exceed more than 5 kgs to compensate for the fee.

Happy packing.... ;)

Hey, super thank you sa mga replies nyong lahat ha!

Well, about the question on how i weighed my baggage, i only have a personal flat weighing scale that we have at home. I already used that to weigh my baggage before when i traveled abroad in 2002 and even sa mga local flights ko lang. Accurate naman sya basta tinitilt ko young box kse ndi naman sya kasya dun sa maliit na flat surface nung weighing scale. At least, it gives me the idea if kulang or sobra na ba sa 23 kgs. I'm planning na magexcess sa isang baggage ko basta not more than 5 kgs ang excess and ok lang din if i'm going to pay basta wag lang sobrang mahal at afford ko pa kesa nman magbawas ako at manghinayang na ndi ko pa dinala eh halos lahat naman ng pinack ko are really important items to me. Sana nga khit an excess of 1 or 2 kgs if 23 kgs ang weight limit sa China Airlines eh iallow na nila yon at wag na ipenalty hehe...

Keep this in mind too.......

Your scales and the scales at the airport may be different.

If you don't want to pay the overweight fee, better keep the weight well under the limit.

I had one bag the airport said was over, I placed it on the scale in the next window and it showed it was fine.

Hello,

I'm confused. I thought each passenger only allowed 25 kgs. check-in baggage but some airline are only 23. But as what I've read here they have two 23 kgs baggage, so all in all 46? Makes me confuse now. I just want to clarrify if it's ok to bring a lot of baggae as long as each baggage wont excess to their limit?? Am i right?
