Some questions on the visa issued my fiance

OK, I am a little confused. On my fiance's just issued visa it lists "Expiration date of petition: 03 July 2006."

Well, That is before she will even enter the country. Not to mention before we will marry and file for AOS. Is this normal?

Also, they got her name WRONG on the visa! Her first name has two names. So example for the correct way would be: name1a name1b middle-name. Well, they have it name1b middle-name name1a! She told them at the consulate about this and they said it was fine.

Now we worry what will happen when she gets here. We do not want to go back to the consulate for fear of their taking it and then canceling the visa because they think maybe they background checked the wrong name (that has happened to others and they ended up waiting months). We are dealing with Ho Chi Minh City here, so asking for delays is asking for trouble.

The expiration date isn't that of the visa but of the NOA2 (you'll see that it comes exactly 4 months after your NOA2). No worries, it doesn't even really matter.

Naturalization

I'm sorry that I can't answer the part about the name, and I'm probably not too much help in general (sorry), but when I read your post, it jumped out at me that the expiration on the visa refers to the PETITION. I have heard that lots of people have their interviews past the valid date of the petition (NOA2) and that the consulates extend it if the parties still provide letters of intent. I think this happens frequently in London. Could that be what its referring to?

Why it would mention that on the visa itself, I dunno, but I guess it is possible.

Edited to say JINX to JamesMiranda.

Matt_Stevens,

Your timeline says that the petition approval date was 3 March, and the approvals are good for 4 months (look at your Approval Notice).

Don't know why the consulate would put this information on the visa, but it's correct information.

My middle name in the visa was incorrect too! it's because of confusion & difference between two country once a woman get married in my country, your family name will be automatically become middle name while here in U.S. your middle name will always be your middle name so that's what they did on my visa which is totally different on my passport and I don't have no problem when I entered U.S. I hope would be the same for her.

It sounds to me that you know what to do.

Take what you have and run with it. You can fix the details later.

You have done everything right so when your in the US and continuing with the process, you can bring up the changes then.

I am at the beginning of the process, so this is just my opinion.

good luck,

Brad
