Hi - I submitted my I-751 in February, but since then I came across some additional documentation to support my application - I sent it to the Vermont Service Center, with a cover letter asking them to add it to the package.

Has anyone else done this? Do you think the documents will be filed as requested?

Yup! I did. You can see my timeline. I'm not sure if the documents will be filed with what we originally submitted, by common sense, it should, but we're talking about VSC here. I have not received any online updates yet, but I would give them 60 days, now it's about 30some days.

We sent some additional documentation for my wife's AOS back in 2005. When she went in for her interview, she saw it in her file as the officer was flipping through it. So, yes, sometimes it does make it into your file.

Hi Milesinfront,

As I replied to a similar post before on VJ:

I honestly don't think that the USCIS has the capacity to process that new evidence in a compentent way. Sure everyone can send in their extra evidence, but who is to say that they will lose it, misfile it, ignore it, throw it out, claim that they never received it, or heck, use it as scrap to heat their fireplaces with.

For example, what if one sends their new evidence, then they make a new file instead of combining it with the old one? Then they would end up with 2 files, which they would later have more trouble in 'merging' it together and could cause delays in processing. Then there's the issue of them transferring files. What if they transferred your old file to another service center (such as the VSC to CSC transfers), but they don't transfer your new evidence file with it?

Personally, I say just keep the additional evidence you have now, keep on gathering more evidence, and "surprise" them with the new evidence when they demand for more of it. And in this regard, you would be the more compentent one there in giving them more evidence when asked for it :innocent:

Lol...believe me, I had many more "surprises" in store for them later on... ;)

For example, I found out I was pregnant after I had submitted my I-751 application. I didn't submit the proof of this (high-risk too) pregnancy with my application, as I wasn't pregnant then when I originally submitted the I-751. However, I submitted such evidence recently to my local congressperson, when I made an "official inquiry/expedite" on my case, which definitely helped right away in that regard in my case being approved a few days later....

After all, "why play all your cards now", when you can "save and gather more for later"? "Surprise" the USCIS when they least expect it!...And oh and how they love surprises!....;)

Hope this helps. Good luck with your immigration journey too.

Everyone seems to be worried that the additional documentation won't find your file. So what if it doesn't?

You are going to send copies, not originals, right?

So make a copy of your application receipt and send it along with your additional documentation and a cover letter asking that it be added to your file.

If it doesn't make it to your file, you have lost the cost of the postage, nothing else.

I wouldn't send anything extra after sending the original petition. However, in my case, I really do feel as though we sent enough and I'm not too awfully worried about it. The same day we mailed off the petition, my husband and I applied for a loan and opened a new joint back account at his credit union. I'm holding on to that happily ... just in case I get a RFE.

As for why it's not a good idea to send stuff separately (as queried by the last poster) .... best case scenario is that it makes it into your file and does not raise any red flags. Moot point scenario is if they lose it. Worst case scenario is that some doofus thinks that this is not additional evidence but in fact all the evidence you have and denies you or sends you a RFE.

For me - I don't assume that the person handling my file has common sense ... or book sense. Same rule of thumb as writing an essay. Pretend your audience knows nothing!!!
