Wow, just a week left and I am flying to marry my sweetheart of 2 years. I can't believe it. I am so excited because I know he is the right one for me. So sad because I will be the only one from my family and friends able to attend. I am nervous because this will essentially be my last chance to bring my husband over here. I am thankful to my boss because she offered to work with me in moving to India if push comes to shove which is how we met in the first place. I was over there for my job for 6 months.

I know we will have a few wedding celebrations, so I know my family and friends will get to eventually share in our love. It is just not how I have always planned. I know this is how God has planned, therefore, I must be satisfied. I am also thankful that his family is very receptive of me, and my future mother-in-law, and sister-in-law have made several shopping trips for gifts for me. My fiance has worked untiringly to make sure everything is arranged for my arrival (he has earned major brownie points ;) )

What did you all do for the difficulty of getting married without your family and friends? That is the hard part. My mom is not making it easy on me either, although I think she is better about it now that she believes I am actually coming back after I get married. But if he is still not allowed here, I will be with my husband. She likes him, I have even noticed that she has our picture in a frame

First of all, early congrats on your marriage.

The only comfort that I had about getting married without my loved ones present was that we will have another celebration when he gets here and all will be included.

It wasnt how I always planned it either. I dont think any of us that have married abroad dreamt of a wedding without our family there or in our own traditions(for those that married into other cultures). but I wouldnt change one little thing if I could ^_^

Just keep telling yourself that everything is working out the way it should and that you can celebrate with your family and friends once your soon to be husband comes home. :)

Timeline: 13 month long journey from filing to visa in hand

If you were lucky and got an approval and reunion with your loved one rather quickly; Please refrain from telling people who waited 6+ months just to get out of a service center to "chill out" or to "stop whining" It's insensitive, and unecessary. Once you walk a mile in their shoes you will understand and be heard.

Thanks!

Thank you! Again, congrats on your husband's recent approval. I know excited doesn't even come close to how you are feeling right now

Aww, congrats and I know just how you feel - there was nobody from my family or friends at our wedding either but it would have been impossible - my mom is afraid to travel to a 'third world country' :( and if we had our wedding here then none of Govi's family would have been able to attend so either way it would have been the same situation and this way we had our beautiful traditional Nepali wedding that would have been hard to do here -not to mention more expensive... ;)

Best wishes to the both of you!

Don't just open your mouth and prove yourself a fool....put it in writing.

It gets harder the more you know. Because the more you find out, the uglier everything seems.

Now's the time! The wedding will be great but I know you'll have those bittersweet feelings. They will be with you in spirit, take tons of pics - is someone getting the wedding on video for you?

Plan something great and fun here in the US once you get thru the wait again...maybe even plan for a renewal of vows on your 1st anniversary? There are ways to celebrate with your family here too...it just takes time.

It's hot, HOT, in Delhi right now - hope you're going to a hill station after the wedding?

Congrats!

Thanks VJ family. I appreciate your supportive thoughts, and well wishes. Yeah, I remember how hot it was during this time of year. We are planning to go back to the mountains for our honeymoon as soon as we get our marriage registered we are "running away". I did go shopping this weekend to look for cool casual clothes. SO EXCITED!!! Just hoping that I can get there on time this time since last time I was delayed a day. I didn't really schedule much rest time. I arrive on Sunday night, and we are getting married on Tuesday. No time for error or bad weather
