Hi,

Among other documents required for the embassy interview there is a copy of the birth certificate, it is mentioned it has to be a certified copy or you can go with a photocopy and with the original for the consular officer to inspect.

When it gets to the copies of former marriages and divorces, it's says only certified copies, nothing about the up-mentioned possibility to go with a photocopy and the originals.

What did you do? Should I certify the copies of my former marriage and divorce or take my chance and go with simple photocopies and the originals? I'll have anyway certified translations.

Have a nice week-end,

Stepha

I gave them the originals - of my birth certificate and a certificate that wasn't required, but I brought it anyway, that states that I am not currently married in Croatia and that I plan to marry my fiance. They made copies and kept them and the originals were returned to me.

I have not been previously married, so I can't help you with any divorce-related documents. Both police certificates (for Croatia, two are required) were originals and they kept them.

It might make the process go a tad faster if you bring the certified copies or originals AND photocopies. That way, they won't have to get up & make copies themselves. Small thing, but they may appreciate it!

Birth Certificate, for example: The original is the one issued when you were born. If you still have it, great! But if not, you can request a certified copy, which will have the raised seal on it.

I would assume this depends on a country.

Here, a birth certificate is issued whenever you request one. Every time it's issued, you get the original. A certified copy (of that same birth certificate, for instance) would be a notarized copy, or a copy of some whatever document with the stamp of the issuing place on it.

ok, but in this case a photocopy cant be notarized as well and show this in the interview date, like a proof of a ending marriage?

I know what are the instructions as I received the package 3 but I was just wondering why for the birth certificate I can go with a simple photocopy and the original and for the divorce certificate I cannot do the same, why do I have to bring a certified copy?

And I wanted to check with the other divorce(e)s what they did.....

If you have your original copy of the divorce decree that will work.

I have my copy of my divorce decree that I received from the court. For our visa journey I obtained a few certified copies from the court to have when needed as well as made photocopies when appropriate.
