I was just trying to order a new BC Birth Certificate, which I will need for the interview process and I am not sure which type I need. Do I just get a certified Birth Certificate, or should I get a certified photocopy of the original document that my parents filled out?? What will they want??

Thanks so much!

Long form... if you go in person in Toronto, I think it's about $40ish? It's the one with both parents listed on it and needs to have the seal (which it does)

I needed emerg expedited and found a site that did expedited service, I paid $110!!!!!! But got it in 48 hours :)

they view original and you give them a copy

good luck!

You can get either the certified photocopy of the original or the "parental birth certificate", they just want to see your parent's info as well.

Wow... look at all the pretty colors!!! ;) Much more "official" looking than the hand scribbled one my fiance' got last summer. He got the "long form" and didn't even know that THAT one existed. When, the "long form" is what we're used to in the US. I must admit, Canada has the US beat, hands down, on making dull boring forms look kinda cool.

We make our money look kinda cool too ;) lol

I also didn't know there was such a thing as a 'long form' birth certificate until this visa process. Are these available in Ontario too? I'll assume yes, because one would have to go to Toronto to get them. lol How long does the non-expedited process take?

As for the money... that's kind of a Monopoly looking oddity, but it still gets spent the same way. ;) We ordered my fiance's long-form BC (from Ontario) online... don't really remember how much it was. There were different prices for different receipt speeds with different application processes. I know, not much help there. Let me see if I still have the link where we ordered his BC. scratchchin.gif

edit note: YEA!!! I got the thinking smiley to work!!!

Finally, I have the offical looking BC from Saskatchewan (it took 24 days to get here, even with faxing in the request form) - hmm looks like the scanned one from a previous posting. I ordered the computer generated ones - as NVC led me to believe that the handwritten "long" 8.5 x 14 certified copy of the Registration of Live Birth would not be sufficient (which it turned out it was acceptable by the NVC supervisor.) So now I have all 3 yes 3 types of BC from Saskatchewan. I am glad that I didn't have to wait on the BC from Regina to complete the process at NVC or it would have taken until almost May to get there.

So the three I have now are the short, long (which is the same size as the short), and the certified copy of the original Certificate of Live Birth. It is nice to have the last one, as there is my Mum's handwriting on it, and she passed in 2000.

It is important that everyone ordering BC from Canada realize that NVC, at the first level of examination of our papers want a computer generated copy with parental information = long copy. If Trailmix hadn't suggested that a supervisor look at my file, and I had just gone on what the Documentation Checklist asked for; our case would have been delayed an additional 4 - 5 weeks.

Good luck everyone!

Janet
